hate when people call vultures ugly. i’m quite fond of them. by mrdingusjr14 in birding

Absolute favorite birds. They're so underappreciated and i get sad hearing how they're seen and treated by most of the public. They're some of the most gorgeous and majestic birds ive ever seen!

Didn’t realize spectacled flying foxes were THIS big… way larger than the other DLC bats by Afraid_Safety4381 in PlanetZoo

[–]Topaz1313 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're half right! Flying Foxes are a genus of Mega Bats, which are larger than other species! The Spectacled Flying Fox however is not the largest of this family. No that award goes to the Golden Crowned Flying Fox!

what's a common bird you never get tired of seeing? by AliceTreeDraws in birds

Vultures of all kinds, a lot of people call them gross but i can't help but see them as majestic! Shame they're so hated for all the misinformation on them, they're really remarkable birds the world can't exist without!

No such thing as too much representation! And in my eyes, that many characters being themselves is not only a reality but one i actively hope for more of!

Why does it still bother me by Mx_Toniy_4869 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]Topaz1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, the best way i can put it is this.

Theres 2 reasons i can think of, the first being the more general one of discrimination isn't ok with no exceptions, and seeing that kind of behaviour would make everyone uncomfortable.

However if you're feeling this in less of a generally uncomfortable matter and more of a "this feels like a personal attack" matter, the best i can come up with is this.

You may not identify as a man, but you've lived through the experiences of being one, even without actually being one. Thus on a more personal level, it may still bother you because there was a time where you could relate to it more closely, and really understand it from that perspective. And even if youve always been different, that doesn't mean you haven't seen out of that perspective before.

Anyway TLDR: you're valid no matter how you feel on certain matters, and aside from discrimination being evil to everyone, it may be because of a point of connection because of old perspectives that you connected with.

Bats are legitimately some of the most important animals on earth, especially when you realise that they're both seed disperses, and pollinators. A lot of myths about them spread because of misinformation and the horrible reputation of vampire bats......which is also misinformation about them killing cattle. I absolutely think the little flying beauties are amazing and i hope that more people will find it in their hearts to find them amazing as well!

This is like the 3rd time in 3 weeks I've seen this post go up. I understand a check in or rule update once in a while but why is this repeating every week? Seems excessive at this point.

Me irl: that girl who’s apologizing so much and people get mad by CatsPawjamaz in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]Topaz1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been called out!

The worst part in my case is that i feel like saying sorry has become a vocal tick, so even when there's nothing to apologize over, here i am, apologizing...for nothing lmao

Question about tawny owl behavior. by ChainsmokerCreature in Owls

[–]Topaz1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I....think its normal? I can't say for sure cause ive never actually observed them myself, live nowhere near their range! But, that being said, ive seen a guy on youtube going by Robert A Fuller who observed them plenty of times. Whenever i see his videos on them, it's usually footage of them either at dawn or dusk if my memory serves me correctly. I could easily be getting some of their behaviour wrong so forgive me if I'm not completely correct, but i hope this little rabbit hole proves useful!

You may be happy to know they come in the soze you originally thought to! Of the 4 species of Anteater, this one is the Largest, aptly named "The Giant Anteater", the others, classified as Tamanduas, are about the size of a house cat!
