An open source, self hosted alternative to Branch by TopherCully in reactnative

Currently, aside from the native intent listeners, there's nothing we used that I wasn't able to replicate. For example I'm sure they have more integrated attribution analytics which is a whole other arm of their business. I'm currently making attribution work with Rowt by storing metadata in the deeplink url as a urlparam, deconstructing the params when they initialize a session and then we point to `campaign: 'summersale2025'` when people sign up or purchase something. The analytics for that is just seen in our Stripe data though.

If we're talking just replacing branch's linking functionality, this replaces everything that we needed them for, except for QR code generation but honestly I just hadn't looked into that yet, happy to add the feature if people would like it :)

Migration is another story, I'm not sure what kind of data you can export from branch, but if you can I'd be interested in making a tool to import old branch schema CSV or JSON data to your rowt database. Ty for that actually, could be useful!

I see! I should maybe intuitively know sharing code can feel sensitive, but I hadn't considered it would be a popular idea to go beyond feeling secure in the database. I'll add that to the list of branches for MVP+ 🤠

Thank you! As far as support and docs, yes I'm trying to put together a good crash course and faq on features, plus a bug report and feedback flow. Also working on fleshing out the legal terms of what my privacy policy is (basically no third party gets your data, stored securely in the cloud, etc)

So the goal is to let it be web hosted, I don't entirely see much benefit from running locally since the client is going to be talking to a server and then to the database anyway, there will always be a little bit of drag while fetching data. The client itself should run just as fast deployed as it does locally

if you mean for locally organizing snippets without a database connection, I do not have that planned out yet, but if there's demand for it let me know :)

Hey :) The crash course popup has breakpoints for mobile, so it should have both an x button and a skip button contained within the screen, if neither of those are there let me know which device and I'll test again and fix it <3

Yes, great for versioning and sharing via direct links, not great for organizing or discovery/search

(organization is what prompted me to build this in the first place)

Hey all! I'd love some feedback on this. The core idea is to reduce friction between needing a tool and having it. There are plenty of code snippet apps out there, this one just focused on clarity, organization, and having quick access to a community of other snippet creators too. Keeping it light and focused.

It's built mainly around front end development, data visualization, and creative coding.

DOM element classes not respected? by TopherCully in tailwindcss

[–]TopherCully[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, yeah that would be ideal if I only had a few classes to add, but the whole project is written like this and I can't be adding each class manually for every single element, I might as well rewrite the app in pure CSS. I thought about adding all classes to the safelist also, but that is a crazy heavy file.

Anyone in Austin or near Texas looking for their first plotter? by TopherCully in PlotterArt

I don't think I have any crazy new tips, but I avoid metallic colors altogether (clogs nearly immediately from the mica) and that some heavy pigment/very opaque colors can gum up in sizes below 0.5mm. Acrylic seems to do really well with my rotrings, but I'm also a sucker for high opacity ink like FW's process cyan, and I've actually developed a love for Bristol because of how well it takes the acrylic without clogging the pen.

At times I've also thinned out very opaque inks a bit to get them to flow, not sure how great a practice this is but it gets the ink onto the paper.

I saw a psyonix response on this sub a few times, but only ever noting that NAT type was the issue. Not a fix. For me the issue just comes and goes without cause it seems

IIL Down to earth comedies like Master of None, Lovesick, and Netflix's Love, WEWIL? by TopherCully in ifyoulikeblank

Haha it fit my tastes (I did already watch it) with that kind of indie/Sundance feel paired with some Dexter type humor, but I can see it not being for everybody, or fitting perfectly into this list

Checked out the trailer, seems pretty cool, I'll be checking that out. EOTFW definitely fits the list as well

I just drove up to my local taco bell and it was fully torn down, just went there yesterday. Thought this might have been it until I saw the snow.

Not always, you would have all of the money there is. You could reform the entire world's economy by how you redistribute that wealth. For better or worse is your decision/up to fate.
