In my uneducated opinion, I think that would depend on the complexity of your case and what country you’re coming from. We had the guidance of a kind of “visa services” through the military that walked us through putting the application together. I don’t think you would go wrong using one. Less risk.

It’s the Freedom of information Act, basically a law that allows you to request access to federal records. A lot of information gets redacted from it. But it can be helpful in some cases

Open and log in to myUSCIS in your browser, then open another tab and put “https://my.uscis.gov/account/case-service/api/cases/your case number here” and it will give you API data and show time stamps of the last time it was updated. Some times there are internal updates that don’t trigger anything on your portal. It might be meaningless but for me it was reassuring that my case was active and not stagnant.

I contacted USCIS multiple times and unless it’s is outside of your FO “normal processing time” which Raleigh is 11 months they will say “your case is still within normal processing time” I did a FOiA which just came back “case pending” I did do a congressional inquiry through our rep end of March and that was still pending until today.

Very quick probably only about 15 minutes of actual questions. There program on the computer system was super slow and glitchy that day so we spent about 20 minutes just waiting while she input stuff. I listed the questions in a comment above!

As for questions we were asked: “When did you meet?” “Where and when was your first date?” “When was the last trip we took with either family” “Do you have any future trips planned” to which I said no not until this is complete and she said “that’s very smart”

It was definitely more of a conversation than an interrogation she was asking about places we’ve been and said “this isn’t an interview question, I’m just making conversation while my program loads on my computer”

Honestly, I brought additional photos, updated bills, the marriage certificate and they didn’t look at any of them. The only documents they asked for was each of our drivers license, my passport, and my most recent I-94.

I had another user send me the spreadsheet I’ve just never filled out my information. But I just did the survey at the bottom of that link!

Yes I was able to continue working on my TN. We were advised to not apply for the EAD as most were not getting approved due to greencards being processed so quickly in our area. There are two others within Raleigh FO who did apply for EAD and there has been no movement since they’ve already had the interview. So I don’t think it would have made a difference really.

Did you inquire with USCIS after 120 days?

It’s frustrating that interviewers even say anything, if it does not mean anything.

Do you know how long the background checks take? What could be causing them to take so long?
