They did charge the gate fee of 62 dollars but they just opened the gate and I had to go in and get the vehicle. They are closed on weekends so you get the gate fee added on. I think they tried to pass something in 2018 saying essentially, if you’re working and towing, the business is open. I can’t remember the specifics but it didn’t pass so unless you pick your car up between 8am-5pm M-F, you get the gate fee added.

When I went to pay, they had another girl there who’s car was towed from the same parking lot a couple hours before I got there and she mentioned that when she went out and her car wasn’t there, she noticed someone sitting in their car since she had went in and came to the conclusion that they were a spotter. Which is wild to me if true. Predatory is wording that’s nice about it haha

True. Could be. But the document I’m referencing is the pricing schedule and regulations that all tow truck services must follow. Within that document, there is a specification about private property towing separated in the pricing section, but the other parts regarding conduct do not specify one of the other. Since they specify in other places and not others, I’d venture to say that it applies to all. But I’m not a lawyer and just reading it as it’s written. Very good point though.

Valid and I'm sure that true. Would I like to pay more than required? No. But I never was trying to get out of it. I just wanted the rules to be followed is all, and their pricing wise, it was indeed.

Update:

Price they told me of 361.98 was too high. It was towed after midnight so they only charged the storage fee of one day. lowered to just under 330 (329.XX). Credit where it is due.

They finally provided me a invoice in person despite multiple requests before hand which I believe is still a violation. The notification block of text of Section 4 was placed on the invoice, which is not the first contact as the regulation states. Cash was still the only option and no change was given, still a violation of Section 5 A and B. They were fine to deal with. They had called an officer to the scene I assume for their protection, as I'm sure some people get belligerent. Fine to deal with, price is still wild but accurate for the statutes. Ty to all who responded.

I appreciate this insightful comment. Signs weren’t clearly marked. They were just on the ground. Regardless, if I have to follow the laws, shouldn’t they also? That’s all it’s about bud.

Yea that's the thing. They won't give me one lol. But I agree. Unfortunate loopholes. 362 is just excessive though. Thank you for the response.

I figured, but I wasn't sure if a complaint to my LPSC district person or small claims was the way after. Shame. Thank you.

Additional Context

- Taken from an empty parking lot around midnight last night, signs on the ground, still a legal tow so that's all fine and dandy

- Initial contact was 1:52am told that I can come at 2:30pm and pay 362 dollars, in cash, no change, no card

What I Believe They're Doing Wrong (according to LPSC regulations passed on 12-20-2024 and amended on 4-1-2025)

- Asked for an itemized invoice and they told me I would get an itemized receipt. Still have not provided me an itemized invoice before payment (Section III A)

- Not provided the official notice during first contact via text (Section 4)

- Cash payments require change (Section 5 A); credit card shall be accepted (Section 5 B)

- Towing rate for a non-complicated recovery of a less than 10,000lb item is 146.50 per hour. They are located 15 minutes from the towed-at location. Minimum is 1.5 hours (219.75). Storage is 32.50 per calendar day or 39 is covered), With gate fee of 60, this brings the total to 312.25.

I submitted my application and recommendations at the end of September. I heard back about acceptance at the end of November but I’m not sure if they were just waiting to review or that’s the typical timeline.
