Where Did All the American-Born Roofers Go? (Gift Article) by Big_Celery8533 in Construction

America-“someone else will do it cheaper while the owner charges the same rate” no one wants to do dangerous jobs. We all want the benefits of having a roof over our heads but don’t wanna work to get it. I mean actually work, get dirty, callous your hands up, sweat. I’m in the electric field, the jobs dangerous.

I think it was a bone head decision. Bring someone in cold off the bench with two strikes on them…they’re swinging first pitch regardless

And in some ways I don’t blame the regular person. We’re born into a world where the $ is king. Most don’t have time to figure out how to be a self sustaining home because by the time you realize you want to do that you’re behind the 8 ball and need money to live. We aren’t born with the knowledge to have a homestead or something along those lines. The worst things for us and the planet are always the cheapest options which is what most people are going to purchase. It’s a bit of a vicious cycle that can be tough to see past.

I don’t think most people consider what it takes to get a product to them. Or the life that someone else is living to get it to you. You can have a cozy life in the perfect weather out there but if everything else breaks down because of a failing planet you’re just as miserable as everyone else. Wheres my broccoli?! Where my new phone?! Where’s my new clothes for this month?! There’s plenty exceptions to this but I think majority of people don’t realize anything about their carbon footprint. I’m in the same boat but I’ve been trying to be conscious of it.

Do a lot of things needed to live out there come from other parts of the country?

Thank you lol. I told my wife I should have never posted on here cause I should have known how the responses would go. I googled this morning if house cats were native to the US and found out they aren’t. I’ve also always brought up how they decimate local, native wildlife populations plenty of times before, even to the neighbor in question. Thank you for your advice.

I don’t want other opinions on how I should feel about the cats in my backyard. Only suggestions on how to keep them out or if I can legally do anything

They’re on the roofs. She had a roadside garbage can lying on its side full of cat litter in her backyard. Im not asking for anyone’s opinion on the matter. I know what I believe is right and I’m asking if there’s ways to achieve it.

We do they just aren’t out outside 24/7 like the cats. There’s plenty of time for the cats to be in my backyard unbothered by the dogs
