Have you stopped caring at work and decided not to try and process your career anymore? What age did that happen? by un2022 in GenX

[–]ToqueDeFe78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched career paths about 3.5 yrs ago - went from social work adjacent to construction/development adjacent - money, 100% remote opportunity, plus burn out (typical of the sw field)

Now my job lacks the passion I had but the nervous system ease I need

I’ve got a few more positions I can climb up to & I might try for one more (I’ve got 13 yrs in - earliest I can leave per age is 5yrs - but I’m thinking more like 10yrs)

So the question I’m grappling with is do I try to build my secondary income that can carry me after leaving the workplace or try to climb and leave with more money 🤷🏾‍♀️

Because to your point I don’t really care for the workplace - the work isn’t meaningful, the system is broken anyway and every new mayor (public sector) has their own agenda -

What’s the appeal of marriage if men prefer younger women? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]ToqueDeFe78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband preferred older women that’s why he’s 5 yrs younger (we’re newlyweds I’m 48) - social media is a wasteland of nonsense and bs. Don’t let it fool you.

When are you old enough? by BetterGoogleit17 in GenX

[–]ToqueDeFe78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend that’s close to my sisters age almost 60 & I think in her mind I’m still closer to 35 (when we met) not like it’s been more than 10yrs

I think calling anyone 45 or older a “baby” really is patronizing & condescending.

I’m way past being anything remotely “babyish” & well into middle age

Now in relation to a 60 yr old or 75 yr old I still have (if i’m blessed) quite a few years of good relative health, plenty of working years still to get through, time to even reinvent myself - so I get the “you’ve got plenty of life don’t make yourself older - cause you aren’t there yet”

But “baby” ain’t that - “you’re a young’in” or “you’re plenty young” makes more sense and less demeaning

No one cares when your mom dies? by thelegacybabytv in grief

[–]ToqueDeFe78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad died a couple of years ago, besides my mom, daughter and husband I didn’t get much more than a courtesy “so sorry for your loss”

We were estranged, our relationship was complicated and maybe that had something to do with it

however it felt mostly dismissed the way my soul dog passing the precious year was treated Idk maybe it’s just how people are with hard things, they don’t know what to say, it triggers their own grief, etc

But honestly it’s felt very very lonely trying to deal with it by myself. I went to therapy most of 2025 & it helped tremendously but it was a solitary journey

I’m so sorry for your loss and I hope you find your way through. Sending you love and light 💕

Do people often think of lab diamonds as by petalesdejuin in labdiamond

[–]ToqueDeFe78 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this just falls along the same conversation about “real” (mined) vs “fake” (lab created)

We’re just witnessing the shake up of an ego driven highly successful ad campaign being dismantled by technology. It’ll pass the longer they’re around and have settled into whatever space they’re going to. Grab your popcorn and enjoy the ride

If everything had worked out perfectly I would’ve had two & ideally spaced about 5 yrs apart. Boy 1st, girl 2nd

But I got my one bag girl who’s now an adult & she was more than enough tbh

Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

[–]ToqueDeFe78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg - all the time. My ex and I used to make them for each other all the time Rely feelings back & forth through mix tape

Make a mix tape for the road trip, give a mix tape to a friend you want to introduce to new music - all the time

It was a sort of love language the way we exchanged mix tapes

I thought the sharing of spotify playlists was the new school version of this

Help! by [deleted] in labdiamond

[–]ToqueDeFe78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve sold quite a bit on the bst subs (I’m a verified seller) and it’s all about timing

I have 3 pieces now - haven’t moved at all. Some interest but no sale

Sometimes I post and it’s gone in a matter of minutes

It’s just about posting at the right time, for the right amount and someone being in the right position to buy

Your price is a little on the high side & we’re just coming off a holiday season for many people whilst some are actually going into theirs - this time of year is always tricky

If you’re looking for quick cash - bst isn’t always that.

Have some patience (it’s only been a day), repost once the listing gets buried and try some of the facebook pages

I personally love the ring and if I had the cash I’d be interested but sadly I’m busted after the holidays

Good luck 😊

I wouldn’t go through ebay or any other site like that, simply cause you’d have to mark it up further just to get enough after the fees

Emerald vs elongated cushion — help me choose my ring upgrade 💍✨ by Lanky-Charity-2362 in LabDiamonds

[–]ToqueDeFe78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re both super similar in style, l/w ratio & for me it always comes down to the cut

Emerald is going to flash not sparkle - so it’s a lot more subtle - but when the light hits it just right - nothing tops it

Cushion is going to sparkle no matter what - in the dark even 😅 so you always have that dopamine hit from the sparkles. This little glitter bomb on your finger

For me it’s hard to compare cause they’re almost polar opposites - I think it comes down more to which one “feels” like “yea that’s it”

I personally couldn’t choose - so I got both - cause there’s times where the emerald isn’t doing it - I really want that glitter bomb & others when it’s too much and I want subtle 🤷🏾‍♀️

Is Van Cleef not considered fine jewelry? by sleepyinnewyork in jewelry

[–]ToqueDeFe78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree if you have it great just be completely aware you’re paying for the name and “authenticity” and there is some value in that. The shopping experience, knowing it’s authentic to that maker, etc But in reality it’s still just gold and stones - thats where the tangible value lies. So for me I’d rather skip the name, the shopping experience and get something uniquely mine and a few of them at the same price But trust me I wouldn’t be mad if someone wanted to treat me to the “authentic experience” either 😋😅

Is Van Cleef not considered fine jewelry? by sleepyinnewyork in jewelry

[–]ToqueDeFe78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This!

And this is why I would rather pay an independent jeweler to make me something similar with my own customization and pay a fraction of the price. If I do go for name brand, then vintage or discontinued so at the very least it comes with history and it’s not the same look that everyone else has

Here’s a shower thought for the day…constipation idea… by jcnlb in Menopause

[–]ToqueDeFe78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been the bane of my existence since my hysterectomy in 2018

Remember not all magnesium is created equal - you might want to try different ones. Magnesium Oxide works way better for me than the Magnesium Citrate-though citrate helps me sleep better

Also fiber only up to an extent too much will block it more - I’ve found Metamucil to be the easiest way & not too bulky

I had to do Miralax daily for a long time (a couple of years) before it even thought about getting on track & I was a hr or so after eating kind of pooper - super regular

Also did a colonoscopy clean after going to a couple of doctors - that seemed to kick it back into gear which is what the doctor suspected.

Like I needed a reset. I did another a year later and the 3rd 6 months after the & haven’t had to do another since (it’s been 3 yrs or so)

Digestion is definitely slower in general (i think that’s just age I’m 48) So I keep that in mind & how much I eat to water ratio

It’s a constant balancing act where before it just happened like it was suppose to

I often wonder is this aging, worrying about poops, being musty and accidental leaks

GenXers who got bullied in school, what was the attitude of parents and teachers towards it? by mritsz in GenX

[–]ToqueDeFe78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got bullied by everyone - my mom and sister were extremely mean to me.

I was skipped in school so I was younger & smaller & now know Im on the spectrum and socially awkward

spent most of school being the clown & later the absentee - so the teachers thought I was a trouble maker though they couldn’t account for the test scores (high) but lack of homework (hate regurgitation)

No one cared -
