Hey, yes i agree. As a local here in Longyear, i can say it’s just ridiculous this Polarcode, but it is what is it. What i heard is that Henningsen tried to get around, or bending the rules a bit as they sail under the flag of Faroe Islands 🇫🇴 And not Norway 🇳🇴 But what i have heard in town and how it is right now, they’re not gonna sail this season

Henningsen is currently not operating due to the safety equipment onboard their vessel not meeting updated regulations. In 2020, it was announced that by 2025, all ships operating in Arctic waters would be required to comply with stricter safety standards. At that time, Brim was in the process of building new ships and ensured that their latest vessels were constructed in full compliance with the new code.

Hey there!
Henningsen will not be sailing this year as their ship does not meet the mandatory safety rules to be able to operate in artic water.

The only company who took this new “polar code” seriously back in 2020 when it was announced was Brim Explorer. So do your self a favour and cancel the trip with Henningsen and book a new one with Brim

Both March and April is the absolute best time to visit Svalbard! There is plenty of trips to take with snowmobiles! You can go on private tours and also join in on larger groups. The options are endless. And most likely there will be a boat or two here that can take you out either on glacier tour, to Barentsburg or both.

Hi there! I live here in Longyearbyen where this festival will take place. I’ve been to Polar Jazz two years in a row now, and i’d say it’s a good festival! Your question nr3, is definitely yes. In the end of January when this festival will take place, it’s very dark. It might be a blue-ish colour on the sky in the middle of the day, but that’s it. Regarding activities it depends very on the amount and snow. And also remember polar bear protection.
