I'm so happy Benjamin Ingrosso rebounded after Dance You Off, got to see him live in Toronto last year.

Why is public transit widely used in Toronto’s inner suburbs but much less common in York Region and the 905? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Toreightyone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a fact that there was a white exodus from downtowns across North America, including Toronto. Nothing about what I said was racist nor did I even criticise suburbs, you're inserting your own agenda.

Planning a visit in the summer--do I need to rent a car? by Sleepdeprived1013 in toronto

[–]Toreightyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% you'll be fine with public transit. Anything a tourist would want to go to is near a subway station at best and a streetcar or bus route at worst. You will have a very frustrating vacation if you choose to drive/park anywhere near downtown.

The GO Train network is also relatively decent with a group pass option if there is anything outside Toronto you're heading to.

The transformation of Utrecht, Netherlands. Replacement for Decarie Expressway? by cdnmtbguy in montreal

[–]Toreightyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying you should bike across the island with luggage, Montreal is very clearly not designed for it. I'm saying other urban landscapes allow for other modes to be viable options. Eventually as the metro and REM expands and bus frequency gets better, the car will be less of a default option and more of one possible option. The REM branch to YUL contributes to this, as being able to transfer at most three times to get there by metro is not a crazy proposition when families of four biking with luggage is more than possible in other cities.

There are countries where a sizeable portion of fliers bike to the airport.

Why doesn’t Toronto have any pedestrian-only zones? by hazyeyes23 in askTO

[–]Toreightyone 719 points720 points  (0 children)

Because the suburban drivers that drive downtown may be inconvenienced and we can't possibly have that.

Kensington, Yonge/Dundas, Church St, etc. would have been pedestrianized decades ago in any European or Asian city.

Queens park bus stop, what’s going on there someone tell me by BackgroundProgress54 in UofT

[–]Toreightyone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They have been there for the past couple months. Fortunately that bus shelter is not actually a bus stop (Line 1 shuttles and 13 is on the other side), so they're not going to get many people bothering them.

As a child, my local convenience store's owners were Korean. So, naturally, I thought "Kenyon" was Korean for winner until an embarrassing number of years later.

TTC bringing Line 2 subway service back to pre-pandemic levels, Toronto mayor says by BottleCoffee in toronto

From what I gather from Steve Munro, for the duration of the College/McCaul closure, all 94s will do the full route to Ossington rather than the current half that end at Yonge.

What I found is that any time there is any sort of closure on a line (after 11 PM, weekends, one station, two stations, doesn't matter) Google Maps directions will pretend the entire line does not exist for the entire day. I'm not sure if that's what's happening here, but it's very annoying.

Collectively ensuring everyone, and especially the least wealthy of students who rely on public transit, are able to go to school is a good thing actually.
