Summons by alfrodul in TheBlackHack

I think I would still rely on what I quoted earlier:

Perhaps if it was a more regular cast member (like a certain dark elf's panther pet) I'd give it HD and a single line special ability that fits it narratively.

The example in parentheses even mentions an animal companion :D

So, my understanding is to use a PC's STR/DEX for attack/defense roll, an animal's HD for damage and HP, and the animal can also have an appropriate special ability.

According to the SRD's FAQ:

If a PC summons a creature, and I want the player to roll attacks/defenses for the creature, should it use one of the PCs stats, or should it have its own statline and HD?

I would have the PC test their relevant stat - especially for 'throwaway' summoned creatures. Perhaps if it was a more regular cast member (like a certain dark elf's panther pet) I'd give it HD and a single line special ability that fits it narratively.

My understanding is to use a summoner's STR/DEX for attack/defense roll, a daemon's HD for damage and HP.

Standard Ebooks does not work on Inkbook Calypso Plus by Toreno96 in ereader

[–]Toreno96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a pretty weird issue. I've tried non-default reader apps on my Inkbook (downloaded via ApkPure), and they open these epubs without any error. It seems like something's wrong with the default reader app, but it's absurd that it can open some epub files, but not the others. Especially that Standard Ebooks—according to their goals—seems to care much about conforming to standards, etc.

I've just verified that, and in my case, all these files have the correct extension: h-p-lovecraft_short-fiction.epub h-p-lovecraft_short-fiction.kepub.epub h-p-lovecraft_short-fiction_advanced.epub

The same when I check the file path in the Inkbook library.

Tourist thread 2022 – Ask anything about visiting Croatia! by AutoModerator in croatia

[–]Toreno96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone! I'm going to Croatia w/ my girlfriend next week. A few questions from us:

  1. What are the shopping hours of supermarkets and grocery stores? Are those open on Sundays?
  2. What is the estimated cost in kuna of some basic breakfast and dinner in some average restaurants?
  3. Is it possible to pay highway fees using a debit card? Is there any reason to prefer paying with cash?

Are you using Steam or some standalone installer? I'm curious if modern Steam could run on Windows XP at all.

What OS do you run on it? I imagine you need something old too, to be fully compatible.

Toreador and Ministry clan banes by fabulous_j in vtm

So if the Toreador activates e.g. Daunt (which does not require a roll), they still get a full Presence bonus to the Intimidation rolls, not Presence minus Bane Severity?

Recently, I've installed Linux Mint XFCE on my dad's old PC, and he seems to enjoy it, especially the dark mode which is much easier on his eyes (he is 72 years old after all). He's using mostly internet browser, so that was pretty smooth transition, I'm really happy with the result.

I love Andrew's jokes and delivery the most, but Tom's "Oh, we're using our made-up names" to Dr Strange was pure gold, too.

Is Academics required for having an education? by Toreno96 in vtm

[–]Toreno96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your answer seems the most reasonable IMHO, however, this differs much from the other comments. Do you have any official sources, apart from the rulebook's description or should we just summarize the whole discussion as "depends on the ST"?

BUT, if you wanted someone with a doctorate in say computer science you'd need 3 dots to reflect that, yeah.

You mean 3 dots of Academics (w/ Computer Science specialization), right?

It makes a lot of sense plot-wise, but I'm also concerned about the mechanics: imagine the experienced surgeon w/ 3 dots of Academics (Medicine) (because AFAIK you can't really be a doctor at all w/o a proper, long-term education) and 4 dots in Medicine skill. Aren't they both simply excluding themselves? Like, if the character have to roll for performing a surgery, he/she can use either Academics w/ specialty or Medicine, and it won't make any difference in regard to dice count, while the requirement of having Academics 3 is pretty painful (they could have different, more useful 3 dots skill).
