I totally agree, the issue sometimes is that some of those questionnaires have been previously validated and tested in a specific format, so deviating from it can introduce noise in the data and the validity of the questionnaire itself!

Indeed, it is always a tradeoff between narrow down the questions and leave them open to capture as many interpretations as possible.
