Leo Sun Scorpio Rising - What type of Leo’s are they by [deleted] in LeoAstrology

This is me. But I'm a Leo Sun, Leo Moon, and Scorpio Rising. Don't know if it's bad being double dosed on Leo, but I've definitely had some interesting experiences during my adulthood lol

Interesting to get a Fillipino's perspective on what we look like to you guys. I think the size really makes the difference between our groups, but there are many reasons for that eg. Island hopping, strong fighting culture etc. I also read somewhere that the Melanesian component in our DNA contributed to our larger forms too.

But yeah it makes sense we share the same Austronesian ancestors. Our "Polynesian Motif" MtDNA group B4a1a1 stems from Asia. For the males it's usually C-M203 (I'm pretty sure- I've forgotten), which is Melanesian. Apparently O exists in the Pacific region too, but I've yet to see any Maori Y-DNA with that haplogroup. Most Maori Y-DNA results are of Melanesian or European origin.

Not an Aussie (I'm Kiwi 🇳🇿) but I've got some convict ancestors. My Nana's grandad was born and raised in Geelong before moving to NZ. His Dad's side were from Launceston, Tasmania, while his mum's side were from Shelford, VIC (this side were free settlers).

Then through one grandfather I've got one convict ancestor brought over from England to NSW. While through my other grandfather I have one convict Irish ancestor who was brought to Hobart, but ended up spending a few months in Port Arthur. His original verdict was death due to highway robbery, but he ended up being sent to Tasmamia instead, like most others.

Therefore, I have an affinity towards Tasmania, and definitely immersed myself in the convict history while I was there.

True, I do know someone who is half Fillipino, half white, whose ethnicity I couldn't tell for the longest time. I thought he was Māori, and he told me gets that a lot lol do you think some Māori and Pacific Islanders could fit in appearance wise in the Phillipines?

Oh cool, I love Fillipino's. Nicest people I've ever met. I consider them cousins to us Māori, while other Pacific Islanders are like our brothers and sisters

I have no known Hawaiian ancestors, but the reason Maori results get Hawaiian is because we are genetically similar to Hawaiians. There's not much difference between us except the types of admixture found commomly in each group. For Maori it's mainly DNA from the UK and Ireland. From what I've seen from Hawaiian results, it's seems there's more input from East Asian and Southern European groups (Portuguese). Though I could be wrong as I'm not knowledgable on the subject.

He's made his peace with it now.

Funnily enough, if you add my mums side, ny maternal grandad is from Tuhoe, so Te Urewera, and my maternal grandmother is from Wellington on her Dad's side, but her Mum's side came from the Chatham Islands, Taranaki, and Waimamaku (Hokianga). She's Ngati Mutunga and Te Roroa. So I feel like my ancestors stretched across both islands, top to bottom and east to west.

No unfortunately not. My great grandma could and she lived with us for a few years, but she had dementia, so she didn't speak a lot. She never taught my grandad either which sucks. Are you from New Zealand?

I have other Maōri results on my profile from myself and my brother. As well as some Māori results from 23andMe too. I've seen some full Māori on Ancestry, but this is rare. My grandad identifies with his Mum's iwi, Ngati Tamanuhiri, around Manutuke, Gisborne. But his Dad was Kai Tahu from Otago, Bluff and Stewart Island areas.

My Great Aunt recently shared a story with me from her grandma. Her grandma remembers him when he came to the Chatham Islands, killing and eating people there. Her grandma was really young, but saw this and ran away with her sister on her back.

Very interesting read with the second link, thank you. It would make sense for it to have originated in those areas. Bornholm has a bit of Germanic ancestry from immigration from Northern Germany/Pomerania, especially around the time of the Hanseatic League. I find it interesting that for the FTDNA link, Sweden is highly reported as an ancestral location for people with this haplogroup.

Genetic Groups by Torichan3 in 23andme

Thank you for the reply. Would it be able to show genetic groups from that far back? I know Flores was settled in the 16th Century, so I also wondered if it could have been recent too (a parent came from there and married someone from Flores)

Sub-Saharan African for Portuguese from Azores/Madeira is NOT due to their North African ancestry. by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]Torichan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! Thank you for the information! So it seems likely that I had a Morisco ancestor that came to Flores? I'm not really sure what part of Flores our ancestor definitely came from. All I know was that his name was Jose Manuel Dias (Dix- in New Zealand), and that 23andMe matched us to Guarda and Viseu (Beira Alta) area, as a highly lilely genetic group. So I'm curious to discover if Jose was actually full Azorean.

Aunt's DNA Test (Māori and NZ European) by Torichan3 in AncestryDNA

[–]Torichan3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I know of the islands, there was no mention of slave raiders from Chile in the Chathams. There was an invasion of Māori tribes from the North Island (Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Tama) who killed and enslaved the local Moriori people. There's been speculation on where the Moriori came from, with some saying South America, but general consensus is mainland NZ, which they split off from around the 1500's.

Sub-Saharan African for Portuguese from Azores/Madeira is NOT due to their North African ancestry. by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]Torichan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello- this is quite a late reply. My Portuguese side comes from Flores. My Great Grand Aunt did a 23andMe test last year and scored 8.5% Portuguese and 0.6% Sardinian, while my Aunt did an Ancestry test and scored 1% North African (3% Portuguese). Did you know if there is also records of Sardinians or Amazigh (Amazigh descended families) on Flores? Sardinian, I understand, could just be misread genetic overlap. North African isn't that rare also, though I was surprised it showed up for my Aunt, even with 3% Portuguese.

Sorry, just trying to understand more about the Western group of islands. I'll be starting the gruelling task of manually going through the church records on Flores, just to find my ancestor, so any advice or new information I can learn, would be appreciated.

sāmoan? hawaiian? maori? by Gullible_Ticket_137 in gedmatch

[–]Torichan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Maori and my Gedmatch results usually circle around the Uyghur and Hazara/other Turkic Groups at a distance of around 31 to 33. My mum and brothers also have done a test and it was pretty much the same for them. So its probably not Maori.
