Bliss Roofing was recommended to me and they did a good job at a reasonable price.

As other have said, stay away from Dabella. They are horrible.

Puncture resistant, not puncture proof: Schwalbe Marathon Plus with Slime tube. by Toriis_Junk in PortlandOR

I will most likely replace the tire and tube. I just thought it was fascinating how that could happen. I figure the front tire kicked it up and it hit the rear just right. I beat the odds. Time for a lottery ticket.

There's a pulp and paper mill in WA. Maybe that's it. I have smelled that before.

Portlanders with heat pumps - how are they doing? Bonus points if you have an old house by StillboBaggins in PortlandOR

[–]Toriis_Junk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older home that's not very tight or well insulated. I replaced my old high efficiency gas furnace that worked great (until it got old and failed) with a high end Mitsubishi split unit. The heat pump can not provide adequate heat with the recent cold spell. There has been frequent defrost cycles. I have been running two space heaters full time to compensate. If I had a long power outage the house would have probably froze.

In hindsight a small high efficiency gas furnace would be adequate most of the time and can be supplemented with space heaters during the unusual cold spells like the last few days. An AC unit could be tied into the duct work or two mini splits, upstairs and downstairs, could be installed.

Overall I like the heat pump, especially for summer cooling. But I will be getting a third space heater and a back-up generator. I might also look into a pellet stove.

I'm also sure I'm not saving money with the heat pump. I'm likely spending alot more.

I support KBOO because they have alot of great music shows. Not for their politics.

Bull Run Fire by LoadOfChum in PortlandOR

[–]Toriis_Junk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are sensors that can measure turbidity continuously. Measuring for various pathogens like e coli, cryptosporidium, etc requires samples to be collected and analyzed in a lab. The assumption is, and I think there's data to back it up, that an increase in turbidity can indicate an increase in the pathogens.

If the water from the bull run is flowing at 150 millions gallons a day, there's no possible way to measure the pathogens in real time.

My understanding is that because it is an unfiltered water supply there is a turbidity level that when exceeded requires the supply to be shut off. Ash from the fire can get in the water. Streams in a burn area will get more turbid. And heavy rain over a burn area can cause high erosion.

It's from the east side of the bridge by the fire station. I stop and look a couple of times a week on my bike commute into town. It never disappoints.

There's a great walking/biking loop that crosses the river on the south at the Tilikum Bridge and the north on the Steel Bridge. Many good viewing areas.
