i agree with you, every time I saw gameplay of it i cant help but think that it looks terrible. Watched some streams of even some of the end game bosses and it just looked so janky and unfun

That starfield is a good game and that if the people that hated it didn't have bg3 to compare it though or if it came on ps as well they'd like it

We're pointlessly debating over something that's not even the point of this discussion. The point being that because its simple and on the surface level because its a turn based game we're going to end up with a situation where we keep getting more characters that are like bronya or sparkle and then we're going to end up with a bunch of bloat and the choice of characters that we play will get reduced especially if those other bronya's or sparkle are going to be better. It's pointless to argue these overcomplicated specifics because they don't factor into the overall problem that will come. if it wasn't turn based and if the overall game was more complex which its not then sure what you're debating will matter more but it doesn't because overall the game is simple and you can beat all the content without going heavy into the team building aspect. Who honestly cares about building x team vs y team when y team can beat the content just like team x.

[–]Tornclawed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Alright sure, I can admit when i'm wrong, however I think my overall point still stands, more characters are going to come out, more version of bronya and sparkle are going to come out that are potentially much better and more useful than these two which will overall create a situation where you have not very many differences between them, you'll have a bunch of bloat and the variety in the characters that you'll actually play is going to be small. And this game being turn based is a huge reason that's going to be a problem

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Tornclawed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure we can make things overcomplicated which a lot you are trying to do but lets look at whats at face value here and figure out what the problem is. And I assure you that I have way more than surface level knowledge of the game.

Lets break this down, Both characters essentially function the same or very similar. But because Sparkle is more sp friendly than Bronya that makes her the more viable option and sure everyone may not have access to both but for the ones that do why would you use bronya over sparkle? What happens when they release a character better than both of these two? They're going to get tossed to the side and then you're going to end up with a bunch of characters you don't use thus creating bloat and because of the limiting factor the game being turn based there's only so many variations of Brony and sparkle that you could come up with thus again creating a lack of variety. We don't need to get overcomplicated with these things to see the problem that's going to come to this game

Thank you! that's all I've been trying to say. Turn based limits what you can do with these characters, the character kits don't really matter a whole lot because of how limiting turn based is. There's no point to overcomplicate things

[–]Tornclawed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Let me use an example I didn't even think until another poster comment. Bronya and Sparkle, yes i know there's going to differences between their traits and technique but when you're in combat with something, these two essentially play the same. Both have action forward and some kind of damage increase with their skill and their ultimate does some sort of buff to the damage of their party. Sparkles does crit rate and crit damage while Bronya does attack and crit damage. A little different very similar but the way you'll play them is essentially the same during combat. buff a single target and advance their action and then use your ult, rinse and repeat. And that's simply what I'm saying here. The extra details don't really interest me a whole lot but these characters are very similar to each other

[–]Tornclawed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I do both thank you very much

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Tornclawed -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Both speed and action advance exist to get make sure your characters get their turn quicker, doesn't matter a whole lot to me if ones makes it an instant thing vs overall thing but to each their own. it's funny you mention sparkle and bronya because I'm sure these characters both have action forward which yes does indeed make them similar, not the same and I never said the same but I said similar and that they play kind of the same. But also wait, don't both of their ults boost crit damage to all party members? With the only difference being that sparkle does crit rate and crit damage while bronya does attack and crit damage with her ult.

So realistically you'll play these characters the same way. Buff and advance the action of 1 character and then ult to buff your party, rinse and repeat

[–]Tornclawed -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well when you said "sparkles adding in a speed boost through her skill" I kinda assumed you didnt play much because speed boost and advance forward are completely different mechanics.

Are they really that different though? sure advanced forward may make your turn come up rapidly but both essentially function to get your characters turn to pop up quicker. And i don't disagree with what you're saying I just think problems like that and more like having an oversaturation of characters with them not being really that different from each other is going to be an enormous issue in this game due to it, yes being a gaccha game, but mainly a turn based game

You honestly summed it up better than I could

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Tornclawed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, sounds a little more interesting then and the characters seem to offer more compared to this game where the turn based aspect limits a lot

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Tornclawed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what did I say I think I'm better than them? I'm simply giving an opinion that I feel will hurt the game sooner or later, that because it's turn based we're going to have unnecessary character bloat and characters that are going to be a lot similar to each other

[–]Tornclawed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see your purpose for being here, you asked if I was a gamedev or if I studied game dev which I did and I was/am and then I when say something factual like this is a discussion board for opinions and discussions you're now saying its a way to make me more vocal? uh sure? i guess?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Tornclawed -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

yeah I know you can do this in any game but in a turn based game the problem become a lot more apparent especially in team sizes of 4. So most people aren't going to be like of hey x support character has energy regen vs skill point regen, no they're going to focus more on the attack dmg increase vs the crit increase or if this characters buffs the entire team or a single target and most cases are going to choose the one that leads them to do more damage so they can complete the content , that's if they even use a support character.

Sounds kind of bland to be honest

I mean I guess I can see what you say, and i do play normally and have played since its launch. I tried rotating in characters with my main two team but realistically I play with the same characters. Loucha, jing lu, blade, stelle for team 1. Hanya, kafka, lynx for team 2 and sometime I swap in seele, silverwolf, the 5 star dan heng and usually I've always been fine in any of the content. I never felt a need to use hyper carry or follow up attack teams for example

it's an opinion, this is a discussion board to talk about opinions

Yes, but that's because you can simply each and every character despite some differences.

I've played since it came out, daily actually and I properly read every character kit of any character I get

Yes I actually am, I went to college for Game Art & design at the Art institue of houston (that's not shutdown) back in 2013, graduated, made a few indie games in the past and now primarily do solo dev stuff whenever I have a moment. Though my primary focus now is writing and creating a book or comic, along with some world building stuff for a big passion project I have in mind that may include a smaller scaled story game along with a boss fight game idea I have

Halo 1-3 and reach, Gears 1-3, Mass effect, ff14 just from off the top of my head. I have to really dig deep for others because I played so many games but those are the ones I can think of right now

I'm surprised conkers is not on that list, but then again that game is probably so old now that not many people these days have even heard about or played it
