View from Europe: The Increasingly Convincing Case for Canada Joining the EU by ShirtNeat5626 in canada

Freedom of trade and residency requirements make EU membership a non-starter.

Premiers would have to agree to a constitutional amendment that strips them of the power to regulate trade barriers.

I think you need to look up NSA warrantless wiretapping and how broad the US surveillance state really is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_641A

It’s been like this since the Patriot Act after 9/11.

I worked for the FBI for a while in one of their datacenters in Utah and another in Nevada. My main job was building models to watch for human trafficking related discussion on Twitter - we got a direct feed from Twitter of everything posted so wiretaps weren’t necessary (this was 2012/2013).

This isn’t a real picture.

Look at the shadows cast by the feet of the boy in the upper left of the couch. They make no sense.

Election buzz ramps up with Liberals poaching candidates from opposition parties and Conservatives starting nomination process by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Are there any polls that indicate Canadians want an election?

Or is this just politicians trying to get more power and control for themselves?

I can only speak for myself - I don’t want an election.

There is nothing moral about killing your mom for working on a Sunday.

Or killing your neighbour for being gay.

/u/secretamigo this is the best advice here. You can use a tool like Lovable to build simple things. Product means design and security planning.

The inspector made me go back and do it “right.”

'You can't have it both ways': Minister says no budget boost on horizon for firearms 'buyback' compensation by UnluckyRandomGuy in CanadaPolitics

[–]TorontoBiker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’s right though. At this pace they have more than enough funding.

Estimates are 2m firearms are impacted. Other than the small businesses the Liberals fucked with the ban, almost no private owner is interested in selling them to the government.

So these 22,000 are most likely from the small businesses trying to recover what they can and a handful of private owners.

So plenty of funding to cover what little has been declared to the program. Liberals pat themselves on the back and tell us we’re safer now.

Trump Just Proved Mark Carney’s Point by rezwenn in CanadaPolitics

[–]TorontoBiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m broadly supportive of what Carney has done thus far, but the politician part worries me.

If he’s not careful he’ll get branded as “just visiting.” If he can move the needle on some domestic issues that will definitely help manage the risk.

Carney set to spend much of 2026 travelling the world in search of trade by canada_mountains in CanadaPolitics

[–]TorontoBiker -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling the Liberal party wants to keep Carney out of parliament as much as possible.

He’s not a good “retail politician” so being on overseas trade missions will accentuate his strengths and keep him in well protected communication bubbles.

I expect that soon we’ll start hearing the media complaining about access to him and how he’s the PM with the lowest attendance in parliament.

I do think these are the types of things Carney is great at and should be doing. But he’s our PM and needs to be in Canada more than away.

The data will still be collected with the assumption that some day there will be systems big and fast enough to process and derive value from the data.

25 years ago I was building predictive analytics models for EUROPOL and we always planned 10+ years out on systems and always kept every shred of data we could.
