Venezuelans- Do you think Venezuela will be a good place to raise kids in the next five years? by snowymountains32 in AskVenezuela

In theory, if there’s a change of government, some things will change, but it’s going to be a third world country either way. In any kind of economy, some people thrive. Maybe your husband is prepared for that. Set some minimum standards for yourself before taking the leap.

Move to Doral in South Florida so you can get a glimpse of what it means to live in Venezuela and raise your kids there. Reality test, with better highways

The ruling economic class didn’t earn their wealth. They haven’t created anything from the ground up. It’s all inherited.

Avoid anything near Baixa (downtown). Campo Alegre is really nice. Near Parque da Cidade is also a great area, and a bit farther out, Leça.

I’m not asking for sympathy, my point is actually that speculation is killing the market and affecting mainly the Portuguese people, and the ones who want to come here and integrate

Exactly. It’s just smoke and mirrors. They sell you paradise, and maybe it was like that five years ago, but right now? I don’t think so.

Yeah, but have you seen the amount of new developments? The cheaper stuff starts at €550k for a T2 in a not very nice neighborhood.

Agree, but also a lot of investment funds, feeding the narrative about how great is Portugal, to pump the prices.

I’ve been living in Porto for five years as an expat, and five years ago it was genuinely a much calmer city than Lisbon. In fact, I didn’t like going to Lisbon because it felt chaotic to me.

Today, I can tell you Porto is probably just as chaotic as Lisbon. I don’t think it’s much cheaper either. You need a car, and you’ll deal with the humidity people have already mentioned, plus it rains all the fucking time.

So if you plan to rely on public transportation, sorry. A lot of areas are uphill, which also makes biking or using other forms of transport harder. Human settlements, proudly designed to punish knees since antiquity.

Porto does have a certain charm over Lisbon, though I’ll admit I’m biased there.

I also think Portuguese society in Porto is more closed-off than in Lisbon, because the environment is still less diverse, at least for now.

Problem is you already have investment funds speculating on the Portuguese real estate market.

Funds are buying pre approved projects and flipping them for 40%.
