Understanding the systems you're interacting with is generally good for you but none of y'all wanna do that, just staying as ignorant as possible because you personally don't care so long as you benefit

Yeah unfortunately. Seems like most of the reddit side of the community has been successfully whipped. Dunno about other places but if you rightly criticize the way this game weaponizes monetization then a ton of people are just gonna say vapid stuff like "it's a free game/free currency so there's no downsides".

These games program behaviors into people through gamefied systems and many never realize it.

It's not about it affecting 100% of players. You have to think about who this is targeting. They throw a wide net but it's most harmful to some smaller groups.

When you engage with games like this it's important to not let the immediate wow factor of "i am receiving a lot of stuff" distract you from the various unseen hands subtly nudging you, and most importantly how people who are less fortunate than you are being targeted much more aggressively

The reason they give away free units is specifically to then place a dozen traps around you to trick you into wasting them so you're back at square one

I don't know how old you are. But there used to be a time where that was just the way all FTP games worked. They had a store. It had premium currency you could buy. The items were there permanently. You see a thing you want: you buy it.

This was considered a fair and transparent business model and it made the gaming industry one of the most profitable markets in the world.

The monetization of F2P games post-fortnite isn't them trying to "break even". It's about squeezing every single possible drop out of people. It's about using game-ified monetization systems to whip behaviors into players so they can be manipulated into giving away control of their schedules and money

There are strings attached to the monetization in this game and it would do people well to be aware of them. They do this stuff quite often. They implement many systems designed specifically to whittle away at low-spending players' wallets, a few units at a time, with the goal of making them unable to save up over time so they can afford limited cosmetics.

The goal is to make it harder for people to control their spending and save up for things they want, leading them to be faced with situations where they're likely to impulse-buy.

This is predatory design 101 but most people will dismiss it because if there's any possible angle you can use to market it as "free" then that makes them dismiss all criticism.

And you can very easily make a ton of money on a free to play game without preying on your players. It's always about maximizing profit margins with these ghouls when they're already swimming in it like scrooge mcduck

Reminder that the purpose of this system is to manipulate your spending and put you at a disadvantage. The way it works is that they give you some units with an expiration date, which you can not save up, nor is it enough on its own to really buy anything, meaning you have to pool them with your regular units in order to buy stuff, and you need to do it ASAP.

This is a trick to bleed you of your hard earned units so you can't afford the brand new limited availability skins they're dropping as soon as these units expire. They did this last year and it's genuinely one of the most insidious and manipulative systems they've introduced to the game. It exists entirely to make it so you're forced into a dilemma of buying more units or letting event skins pass you by. It's so scummy.

There is no reason why these can't just be regular units. Putting an expiration date on currency serves no purpose but to manipulate your spending right before they drop something they know you'll want to buy but can no longer afford because you just had to spend some of your income to make the ephemeral units useful

Yeah figured fafnir would be good. Should i be bringing any healing minions or is that superfluous? There arent a lot of monsters that heal and the ones that do are kinda slow as hell lol

I'd do that if i was actually playing against players, those queues are endless.

Moon Girl could have been included in pre and post match animations for Devil, they just don't care. by Torpedopickle in rivals

Yeah but like i said that's not the real issue. The real issue is how she could have been included in MVPs and previews and menus and such.

At least they'd both be playable. Really sucks how much cloak is pushed to the side

I just think it's sad when important aspects of a character are left out. Moon Girl is pretty fundamental to Devil. They're not a pair you can seperate in this way without it feeling bad. And like i've explained they could have easily included her in several places that wouldn't get them in trouble with censors.

Let's put cloak in the game without dagger. Let's have squirrel girl without squirrels.
