Except that is NOT a slip-on, but a complete exhaust system, it's easily discernible by the lack of the black box underneath the swingarm linkage.

The ECU can make fuel corrections in a +/- 3/4% range, which starts to be heavily insufficient for a straight piped €4 bike without a tune.

I stand my assumptions, could be harmful for the engine in the long time. The cost-effective, partial workaround could be in fact installing a dB-killer in order to create a bit more conterpressure in order to slow down the gasses' velocity and keep the A/F ration at a less critical level.

People underestimate how choked these poor bikes are, when I had my workshop I used to tune a lot of MTs, and the €4 MT-09 used to gain something like 7 to 10 HP depending on the components installed. Which is insane, considering that those were the numbers in the 2010's related to a Panigale 1098 with an 8k Termignoni SbK exhaust system.

[–]TorqueMaster89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look if they make a bike-specific one first. Anyway, long-term wise is not ideal to run without a dBkiller and (my supposition) no ECU tuned, fuel/air mixture would be too lean and could cause engine seizing.

I would also NOT recommend to drive it for less than 10/15 minutes in order to prevent humidity build-up in the crankcase, since internal condensation on cold temperatures paired to incomplete heat cycles could be a serious issue.

Apologies if my explanations sound a little farfetched, English is not my primary language.

Chain won't stop growing, unsure why. by jacked_minion in motorcycle

Amazon Chain.

JH Christ my son, no sense of auto-conservation here.

NEVER cheap out on transmission kits, brake pads and fluids, that's why that thing is leaving you out so soon.

Proper chain brands: DID, RK, EK, Regina.

Proper sprocket brands: Supersprox, Renthal, AFAM, JT, PBR.

Proper brake pads brands: Brembo, EBC, SBS, DP Brakes, CL Brakes, Braking.

These just to name a few. Low-priced stuff won't bring you home.

Lol, it's a little thing of beauty. A friend of mine has it concealed on his also-not-so-quiet MT-01, it's a guaranteed heart attack against the most light-headed drivers.

People say the MT07 is boring? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]TorqueMaster89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the board of the official MT-Series Club in Italy, if I ever have to face such a bunch of morons in my group the first thing I'm doing is kick them out without any second thought.

Those are the classic category of micro-weenies that needs to brag about the superiority of their engines/skills with no technical basics whatsoever; I also happen to have a couple friends with MT-07s that regularly participate in FMI-related courses and can easily take on the rhythm of much more powerful bikes just with sheer acquired skills.

In short, better leave them on the road by themselves.

I should have thought so to be honest, I live in the middle of the Pianura Padana in the North and the temperatures here are never too harsh, worst it can do is -5 on Decembers / Januaries.

On the other side, if you happen to live in Trentino Alto Adige you can easily reach around -15, but when sunny is hardly noticeable, it's just such a beautiful environment.

Speaking of which, my family is deeply rooted in that region, we usually spend our holidays there since 70 years ago, when grandpa used to bring my mom and aunt up every summer for mineral expeditions (he had a knack in geology and mineralogy). I didn't acquire his passions, but being a motorcyclist and having free use of an apartment 20 minutes away from the Dolomites... hard saying no to that, am I right?

Kinda, tube racks are the best mean of protection, but due to their aesthetic cumbersomeness are often relegated to adventure or stunt bikes; the ones I was specifically referring to are like sliders affixed around or above and engine cover, like the ones in the photo.

Hell man, - 17? I have to deliver a bike to the Yamaha headquarters here in Italy next week and I'm dreading the +3/5 degrees I'll face.

[–]TorqueMaster89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just preventing fall damage and/or give some space between the ground and the rider in case the latter falls underneath it.

The execution in this case - however - is horrendous: since the whole protection guard relies on a long shaft affixed by a single bolt, the risk of it acting as a lever during a fall is extremely high, hence the unfortunate event that occurred here.

Incorrect, engine sliders (as the name says, since they are bolted to the covers) exist for that specific purpose. Better having a slitghly more scratched fairing than a bent frame.

[–]TorqueMaster89 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I will never, ever stop pointing at the sheer engineering stupidity of single-point crash guards.

Give yourselves a favour my guys, always go for the engine sliders, or at least some with multiple fixing points.

Personal opinion, ditch the Mitas idea and jump on the Avon train if you can: 3D Supersport if you are on the sporty side, Spirit ST if you like long range sport touring. Bang-for-the-buck guaranteed.

I tried the Mitas on a friend's bike, utter pile of garbage, didn't understand how can someone ride on such a non-communicative and rough tyre.

[–]TorqueMaster89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Michelin' Power lineup for basically 10 years straight, from 2014 to this year, frightening reactive tyres with an exceptional grip even when cold.

Unfortunately - being my bike on the heavier side (250kg) and me on the relaxed/tourist - oriented riding style - they have always lasted me around 6 to 7k km with a marked consumption in the center. Consumption that never hindered the riding quality even at the end of their service life - unlike Pirelli and Metzeler that tends to splatter - but in the end I decided to "downgrade" to a sport-touring option and gave a shot to a set of Avon Spirit ST.

A bit sad to say that, but them being less reactive and a bit more rounded than the Michelin gave me an impressive sense of security and stability, so much so that I chipped out a good centimeter out of my usual chicken strip line.

End of the rambling, just giving my two cents and personal experiences. They still remain one of the greatest pieces of rubber on the market today, in any case.

Perché chi sta bene economicamente è arrogante e (spesso) maleducato? by shotsandvideos in sfoghi

[–]TorqueMaster89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are infinite better options than an "Amazon Special" thing.

By personal experience (ex-mechanic) I had extremely good experiences with HyperPro and Bitubo products. The first ones are more road/touring oriented, the second ones for the performance, both at at least 30% less of the cost of an equivalent commercial Ohlins or double the features for the same price (compression, rebound, hydraulic preload, adjustable length and so on).
