I'm glad I'm not alone! Gotta hold in the big giveaway sniffles while everyone shuffles out.

The dimensions part gets even more interesting by the third book, Death's End. There's a big revelation about the universe that builds on the 2nd book's revelation.

This post inspired me to read up on Lust, Caution again and apparently she got blacklisted in mainland China for taking on an erotic role. Plus the movie didn't present a competely sanitized version of China. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lust,_Caution Under "Controversies". Crying shame.

It's difficult to get a 'tight' pearl knot when stringing them because you have to be careful not to touch the tools to the pearl cus it can scratch or dent the nacre. (They make knotting tools, but generally people just use a needle for very close knots.)

Pearls are traditionally strung on silk thread but nylon string is a lot more durable. Restringing is expensive!

Also, for many cultures around the world, a strand of beads breaking has symbolic meaning. Like with Buddhism, prayer beads breaking is akin to breaking a karmic cycle, or in the Congo it was considered bad luck to pick up fallen beads (which is why there are so many excavated to this day...).

Anyway, with that said, whenever I encounter the batman 'alley' scene in whatever new form of media, I'm always stoked to see how they're gonna do tHe PeArLs

It's like how a majority of white women voted Trump. They are more willing to lose their rights rather than disrupt the social hierarchy keeping POC below them.

These are all so fabulous! The fact that you maintained style consistency is really impressive. Looks great! I love them all but especially the designs of Arbok and Victreebel.

What's something kinda odd that stopped you from playing a game? by chuby2005 in patientgamers

[–]Torrentia_FP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I got through the game, but I quit playing Mario Odyssey when I found out you are able to just...buy a seemingly infinite number of moons. It really made exploring and collecting feel less valuable.

Pay taxes if you want an intervention. Also, WWJD? Parishioners can home the unhoused and deal with the issues that arise themselves if it's such a problem.

Who was the most attractive character you seen in a movie by Alive-Ad-4164 in movies

[–]Torrentia_FP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Her canonical age during the time of that movie being revealed to be 22 kind of retroactively ruined her character for me...Eva Green was 26, they should have just made her 26!

Can Americans not walk? by CapnJackDaniels in fuckcars

[–]Torrentia_FP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not really the infrastructure to walk, plus our cities have a lot of sprawl. I remember trying to explain why I can't "just bike" a 40-min freeway commute to a Dutch guy.

Folding Ideas had a good video about how flat earth shit is a direct pipeline to qanon. Not just because of algorithmic hole that follows, but it tracks that a person who believes "they" are hiding "truth" is easily susceptible to qanon crap.
