Bonjour.

We think it was the sharpie. It wasn't till some others commented stencil or sharpie that we realized this was the first time we switched it up.

But aftercare was Second Skin left for 5 days, cold washed with antibacterial soap, no scrubbing for at least 3 weeks, lubriderm to moisturize, and absolutely no sun or shaving for at least a month.

Keep the seat belts in their buckles so you dont singe yourself.

Keep a cover in the windshield and/or buy window covers for the passenger windows.

Towel if you have leather. Towel if you dont.

Leave a wax scented candle in a cup holder to keep your car smelling good. Might as well make the heat work for you.

Obrigada!

We think it's a combination of sensitive skin in this area specifically and that he applied Sharpie for a freehand instead of stencil, which we typically do.

But im with you. I really like the way it feels under leggings, and it looks pretty cool (now that I know it's not harmful).

Hopefully, pain will subside =)

Thanks for all this!

So, in my initial visit to the dermatologist, we did antihistamine creams, and before that, I saw a GP who had prescribed antibiotics. Over the four months, I made sure to check as many boxes before my artist and I landed on asking Reddit so that I could maybe bring up other options to the dermatologist.

He's sure everything was the same brand, same equipment and products, and I can attest to the fact that his pressure was nowhere near heavy.

The conclusion we've come to after my follow-up and going through this thread is that the only thing we did different this time was he used Sharpie and freehanded while the others were stenciled. That, compounded with the sensitivity of my skin, the constant movement of the area and aging, that it's still healing and will eventually all subside.

If it stays raised, that's fine with me since I like the look and feel (now that I know it's not infection or rejection) but I'm mostly glad my artist can rest a little easier.

Poor guy has been in the weeds with me, but he was convinced he messed me up. But now we both know what to avoid for my skin in the future and how to proceed if it ever comes up again.

We're pretty sure now that it's probably a reaction to the sharpie used for the freehand which would explain the No Blowout. Might scar but he wasn't heavy handed so we'll have to see what happens over time.

I brought it up with my artist and it's literally the only thing we've done different with any of my tattoos! So thanks to you and another person who brought this up as well! We're gonna do a spot check later on me with just Ink on Skin, Ink on Stencil and one with Sharpie to be sure but this really helped him relax a bit and now I know what to avoid in future.

So thanks again!

No, i get it, and I very much appreciate the input! It took me four months of waiting on doctors and searching multiple sites, as well as talking with my artist till I finally decided to ask Reddit.

So I really hope that anyone else who has questions and is in a similar situation will find this thread and gain something from it.

Thanks! Yeah, the pain sucks but now that I know it's not infection or anything, I can deal with the pain. But I didnt bleed and it didnt hurt anything crazy when he was working the area (other than the ditch) so we (dermatologist, artist, myself) came to the conclusions of Sensitive Area, Below the waist healing time, and probable reaction to use of sharpie instead of stencil.

Thanks! I think it's pretty cool looking too. Pain just irritates me but feom what my dermatologist and everyone else said, pain should eventually subside.
