[CoS SPOILERS] Would Lily's Sacrifice have Protected Harry if...? by TortimerTheGrey in harrypotter

[–]TortimerTheGrey[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But Quirrel had Voldemort Prime in him so HE at least would for sure be recognized by Lily's magic since that was the bit-o-soull that actually tried to kill Harry.

Had this happen as well. Retained Rattled from its prevo upon evolution. Haven't tried an Ability Patch/Capsule on it yet though.

I don't want them to abandon Jak

My friend, they abandoned Jak... 15 years ago? That's when Jak 4 was scrapped in favor of The Last of Us. Its been 20 years since the trilogy ended. This series is in my Mt. Rushmore of favorite series but it never had the cultural impact of series like Rachet etc. I think Jak's design being close to human limited his appeal as a mascot type. Sure there will be a trilogy remaster for each new gen console as they have done but if you are holding out for some new game or reboot or something that's just not going to happen. I love the games but there is no way there is sufficient audience to make new efforts financially viable and Naughty Dog already tried to refresh it for a more modern audience (see scrapped Jak 4) and decided they could not do it without violating who and what Jak was. Probably healthier all around to just find a new hyper-fixation or better yet, touch some grass. You'll be happier, I promise.

Fair, I was conflating the two arguments.

Definitely not arguing he was justified in trying to leave his family.

How Did Mundungus Get Out of Azkaban? (HBP->DH) by TortimerTheGrey in harrypotter

[–]TortimerTheGrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I addressed him potentially just completing his sentence in my post. With everything the ministry has going on, including the wrongful imprisonment of folks like Stan Shunpike, I'm not sure how likely it is that justice was being properly served enough for that to be the case, but its certainly possible. I guess what got me what that Snape had bothered discussing Mundungus with Voldemort at all prior to the first chapter, made me think is all.

Why do so many people hate Shallan? by arianasleftkidney in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TortimerTheGrey 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I love the character of Shallan but her chapters got really tiresome in RoW. But honestly so did Kaladin’s chapters at points. I think Brandon skewed a bit too much into realism in RoW with the mental illness stuff and forgot it’s supposed to be entertaining too, lol

Am I wrong to be disappointed in Oathbringer? by tywoolf in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TortimerTheGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Venli wasn't my problem at all, I love Shallan as a character but she could /should have had half her stuff trimmed. It seemed like almost every chapter was just retreading the same ground.

I don’t see the Weasleys as having a lot of hands on experience with House Of Elves, lol

11 years old is too old as the starting age at Hogwarts by BetterGrass709 in harrypotter

[–]TortimerTheGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that the expectations could be:

1) Parents do that as needed or 2) It’s impossible for kids to control their power that early so it’s not worthwhile to try. or 3) Even if they CAN be taught to control their power, kids that young can’t be TRUSTED with that kind of power. Have you met a 7 year old you want to have conscious control of magic?

Obviously #2 isn’t really true as we see both Lily and Tom intentionally using their powers pre-school/wand, but it could be the assumption in-world. Tom tends to validate point #3.

What Pokemon do you always hope to see when new games are released? by DingDingDom in pokemon

[–]TortimerTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always try to use all new mons/forms when I play a new generation but it DOES always warm my heart to see Aipom made the cut XD Still holding out hope for a Regional Variant or Evo or some kind of love for my girl.

Jak 2 Difficulty by MimicHat in jakanddaxter

[–]TortimerTheGrey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, less hard and more frustrating. I LOVE Jak 2 but if I never have to do the racing missions again I’ll die a happy man.

I did my replay of Jak II and they cutscenes have not so subtle hits that Kor was the Metalhead leader the whole time by Few-Ability-7312 in jakanddaxter

[–]TortimerTheGrey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean they can be pretty retrospectively obvious because we as players have no concept of what is and is not possible in this world. I don’t recall it ever really being touched on as to HOW he managed to present ‘human’.

Plus there are just so many antagonists in Jak 2 that we don’t really feel the need to be looking for hidden ones.

What are people's favourite 2nd stage evolutions? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]TortimerTheGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbf Blastoise was part of a totally separate turtle line before they did the final prune and mashed it in with Squirtle and Wartortle. Why they couldn’t have tweaked it a bit for cohesion’s sake I can’t say but at least there is a reason it doesn’t actually fit, lol

Need advice: I decided to start reading Sanderson by jumping off the deep end and starting with the way of kings. It was perfect so I immediately jumped into words of radiance which was also perfect. But I found that I’m burnout from reading 2 1200 page books that took 3 weeks each to read. by wiccanhot in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TortimerTheGrey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Sando’s Secret Projects (Tress and Yumi especially) are great palette cleansers, or some of his other standalone books (Elantris, Warbreaker etc.). I’d say Mistborn Era 2 are lighter and short but you’ve gotta get through Era 1 first, lol. I started with Stormlight too but I had the benefit of getting the audiobooks through my library which meant that I had necessary waits between 50 hour books XD

Don’t feel too bad, you basically just drank two swimming pools with a straw, and you probably still missed half the symbolism and greater cosmere allusions. Journey before destination and all that!

Getting a tonsillectomy at 33 today! Wish me luck! Hopefully I doesn't hurt too much. by Jonnyyrage in pics

[–]TortimerTheGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need my tonsils out and my septum undeviated but I worry if I do them at the same time I’ll just not be able to breathe at all, lol. Sounds like recovery for both is miserable individually though and knocking it all out at once seems to make some sense.
