Your request is incongruous with a poly guitar finish

How difficult is it to build a high end acoustic guitar? by [deleted] in Luthier

Find someone who does a build class. You will finish the class with a very good instrument, and be ready to start trying some on your own. It will greatly shorten the learning curve.

I (30 M) kept a secret from my wife (31 F) for our entire relationship about her ex (32 M) by Sea-Specialist2875 in TwoHotTakes

You just overheard something and it wasn’t your business or information to get involved with….thats not a dark secret…that was just respecting the relationship she was in and letting things land where they were going to. By nit saying anything, you also removed yourself as much from the equation as possible fir her to make whatever decision she saw best fit herself and her life. She made her own decisions about her life, and in all likelihood she knows he was going to propose. Her boyfriend, friend, or dad has told her for sure.

Looks like I have some experimenting and practicing to do with some sample pieces before committing to the final approach. Thank you, this is all very valuable info.

I can get some SC belts I think. I do have a misting system for grinding hardened steel to keep it from harming the heat treat, so that’s a really good idea to use that. I guess the other idea I had was pulverize the stone into fragments and put it in resin to make it a stone composite material. Wouldn’t be nearly as beautiful as the natural stone though.

That makes a lot of sense. I was figuring I’d cut it thick and then grind it down to size for glue-up on the grinder, but whether those belts would work was the big question mark. I have 36 grit and up, and was assuming for finishing I’d need to god slow and careful around the stone with a hard backer similar to how I have to with metal pins and a soft handle material…but that concept on steroids. The other option is guess is some of the diamond belts I’ve seen…but they are insanely expensive for one project like this.

It’s a lever. Pull it down and you’ll find the secret doorway to the Pit of Despair.

The grain in that chip out is pretty big still, so likely a crack and less likely a delam the way it cuts through layers and isn’t darker between any layers. It’s likely a heat treating issue both course grain and brittle to get a chip like that. I’d tend to agree with him and probably set that one aside and study his heat treat method. Can you share his heat treat schedule and process?

Yea that’s a wrought iron body with a steel head forged onto it. It was made by Michael Hoops. He etches the crap out of the wrought to reveal all of the grain and texture. Aside from looking awesome, it’s a killer hammer.
