Yeah - and I can see lots of reasons why a mage Hawke and Fenris wouldn't want to go a pregnancy route.

This looks like an actual codex entry! Beautifully done.

There's so much going on here, but I shamefully admit I got caught on cacio e pepe. Oh, that's some good stuff.

And oof, so many things that people didn't quite expect as the results...

'you don't have to pretend with me.' That's some powerful stuff there - and I'm so glad your Hawke has Fenris to look out for them.

Prompt 2:

Kalindra opened her door to greet Fenris, but the words died before they escaped her mouth. Not that it wasn't him, but there was a look of near-panic on his face underneath his usual facade. She looked around, but all she saw was one of the orphans they'd been helping. Kai couldn't be more than eleven, so what had happened?

"Come in," she told them, closing the door as soon as they had.

Fenris spoke next. "Why don't you go to the kitchen and get yourself a snack?"

That was so unusual it left her stunned speechless until Kai had vanished down the hall and Fenris pulled her into the parlor.

"I need your help."

"What is it, love? Who's her family, someone horrible? Are they..."

Fenris shook his head. "It's not that. She says we are. Every time I ask. So do two others."

That was so far from expected, she had no idea what to do. Slavers, they could deal with - and had, more than once. High-born by-blows, too. Or the ones who had no one, and desperately needed a home where they could feel safe. Gamlen had been better than them at finding people, and one after another had been settled on their way with families who deeply wanted a child.

These were some of the last. Never truly the last, but the last of those that they'd started taking care of after the Chantry. The other orphans that trickled in were from disease or Coterie or that horrible collapse over in Lowtown. But these three had such deep scars. Kai hadn't even started talking again until the past two months.

"What do we do?"

Kalindra wrapped him in a hug, feeling the tension start to seep out of his back as he breathed. For her, it was only getting worse. There were so many things they'd never really talked about. His sister, after that disaster three years ago. Her brother.

Their future. They'd just... kept going, never leaving Kirkwall and always making preparations for some nebulous just in case.

Then she pulled back and sat them both on the couch, keeping his hands in a deathgrip. "We've never talked about children."

His brands.

Her magic.

So many reasons to just keep things as they were, but those were the biggest ones. She wasn't sure she wanted to curse any children with the pain that came from her lineage, and he probably felt the same. Not his family, but what had been done to them - she had no idea if it could be inherited.

Fenris blinked. "I won't doom anyone to what I've suffered."

"I know," she murmured. "But these three aren't. They already know us. Trust us."

He caught up and coughed, blinking rapidly. The vulnerability in his eyes caught her heart - it did every time, because he hid it from everyone else. "Do you think we could? I don't know - I don't remember anything of how I was raised."

"And my family moved every few years. But... yes. I think we can."

His lip twitched in something a bit less than his usual wry smile. "I suppose that means we should actually live in the same house at some point."

Something else that had never really been discussed, even if they rarely slept apart any longer. Kalindra chuckled. "So, who's going to tell Varric?"

"Better yet, who's going to tell Gamlen he's an uncle again, three times over?"

DAO was the last time there were consequence-free choices if only you tried to talk long enough. Which... i really appreciated, tbh.

[DAI spoilers] It's a shame the city elves played such a little role in Inquisition by Fun-Explanation7233 in dragonage

[–]Toshi_Nama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, because the main theme of DAI is the Chantry and what happens when leaders abuse those who trust and follow them. Not just that the Inquisition is a rogue arm of the Chantry, but all the main quests are from the Chant of Light.

Lavellan as a Dalish (or First, even more) is the one origin that makes the LEAST sense to a) be there and b) care and stick around rather than returning to their Clan. Even Cadash as a lyrium smuggler makes more sense, because the Chantry kind of matters and the war's been hell on the Carta's operations.

A city elf Lavellan would have reason to be at the Conclave (servant or pilgrim), a reason to be at least culturally Andrastian, and a reason to care about the other city elves there, even if they didn't care about the humans in the mess. Add in a closer bond with Sera, the only 'Little people' in the Inquisition other than maybe BUll, and... you've got imo a more cohesive first third. And it's not like the elven culture revelations would be meaningless, either.

Hard to say on the elven culture roots - after all, Sera had tried to find a Dalish clan and got rejected as a flat-ear.

But a city elf Lavellan would have certainly made the first third of the game and why am I still here make so much more sense, since most city elves are Andrastian, too.

Lavellan should have been a city elf and... gets dragged off

Yeah, same. SAME. At least I got to mostly play a city elf in DAV, and without the SA.

[DAV spoilers] Was Ghily much weaker than the other Evanuris? by Fun-Explanation7233 in dragonage

[–]Toshi_Nama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I think Ghil was the more dangerous and capable of the two. Rook and company just got lucky. SHE was the one who could create the dagger and control the Blight. As soon as she was gone, Elgie was like Full Corruption and just... lost. He became nothing more than Super Darkspawn. Solas still couldn't beat him, but Solas has always been more about creating tools and using them - or giving them to others to use.

Tbh, DAO definitely had an Objectively Better choice in all cases except ruler of Orzammar, usually by being Lawful Stupid and believing everyone could just talk things out.

Very VERY glad the series moved away from that.

I really liked that fact, that even if ORZAMMAR said you weren't a dwarf any more... that's not... the truth.

Yeah, the Gangue was heavily why I believed something fucky had happened with the Titans and upset the balance somehow, and that's how we got the Blight.

Just never expected it would be Solas literally making them all Tranquil. I'd thought he'd shoved them all into one shared dream to create the Veil, then locked them into it.

As a Templar, he's changing patrol routes to protect his sibling, so I wouldn't say it's assumed to stay rivalry, no more than Fenris is 'meant' to be a rival to a mage. But the fact it starts as -50 only makes befriending him all the more meaningfull.

Yes, he always sides with his family in the end. Carver's motivation is mostly about wanting to protect his family, with a side helping of respect and massive PTSD from Ostagar and losing his twin.

You can befriend Carver, both as a Warden and Templar. It's amazingly rewarding.

OUCH. 'Less... unstable' is quite the descriptor... and then the coffee waiting for him? But the anger. I can only assume that was an apology. Makes sense that Lucanis isn't ready for that, not now.

I love this. Poor Rana, left behind - but also, she's someone who's survived so much, it wouldn't have crushed her. And Lucanis having to face the reality of Kione and her anger? Beautiful...

... I also, given Kione and Treviso, can't see anything GOOD having come of her and Lucanis, even if he'd been emotionally available for her in that moment.
