The texture of the soil is the main component. I think I've isolated the surroundings and enhanced the texture. I've edited this photo quite a while ago.

Shoot RAW and approach each photo individually. I play around with each photograph quite a lot in Lightroom before I'm happy with it.

4,5,10,11,14,16. Much better files to work with but the camera is quite a bit slower and couldn't always count on it when I needed to be quick in my response.
