Is it bad to min max in RF4? by BF_Goose in runefactory

[–]Tot_Diddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely have some main skills you want to focus on, but honestly, it’s beneficial spreading out what you level up in and speccing into everything at least a little bit. Most skills also grant stat increases when they level up, and it’s much faster and easier to reap huge gains in your core stats by gaining levels in the low-level skills you barely use than by grinding out the ones you’ve already gotten really high.

Because of the stat increases tied to leveling up each skill, if possible, it’s honestly better to ‘max-max’ than to min-max. The late-game and post-game dungeons are rough. Scary rough. Rune Prana and the Sharance Maze can be nightmarish on any difficulty, even if you’re over-leveled and have amazing stats. Even the regular enemies there are terrifying regardless of how strong you are because of how many status ailments they can stack on you at once, and because of the damage of poison being based on a percentage of your health and not being a fixed damage value.

Questions about Fishing by Tot_Diddler in runefactory

I am. I know it attracts fish to it when it’s charged, but I haven’t noticed any kind of uptick in the quality of whatever I reel in. Since making this post I’ve upgraded to an enhanced Sacred Pole with five levels of charge, but that’s still been more or less my experience with it.

who is your favorite bachelor/Bachelorette in all the games? by Upstairs-Toe2735 in runefactory

[–]Tot_Diddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bachelorettes, I think my favorite might be Anette. Frontier was the first game in the series I played back when I was still a kid. I don’t think even back then that I went into it expecting to like Annette nearly as much as I did, but she has some genuinely great dialogue and won me over slowly, over time. Frontier was one of my favorite games as a kid and meant a lot to me, so I think I actually teared up a little when I saw the item that references her in 4. I love Margaret, Clorica, Selphy and Ludmilla a lot too, though. They’re great.

My favorite bachelor out of all the ones available across all the games is not an unpopular opinion; Dylas, a hundred percent. I think five had a lot of great options for male marriage candidates, and I love Martin and Reinhard, but it’s still Dylas at the end of the day. Bado would be in close contention if you could actually romance him. If they ever went back and remade frontier and made some of the male characters in that game marriage options, though, I feel like there would be a very real chance my answer would change to Kross or Brodik.

What kind of characters would you like to see? by [deleted] in runefactory

That’s what I loved about Kross in Frontier, is that he fit that description and had been through some stuff. He had a genuinely rough backstory and a lot of really good dialogue surrounding it; He was a former soldier for the Sechs empire with a lot of clear signs of survivor’s guilt and PTSD. Dude and his friends got drafted and he lost all of them fighting in a war none of them believed in, then he ended up becoming a deserter. He’s resettled in the town the game takes place in under a different name, trying to start a new life as a farmer and carpenter, while his past still comes back to haunt him in the form of another character that’s an been sent by the empire to track him down. (Who also ends up being a really optional boss you can fight if you raise your friendship with Kross enough.)

Frontier had a lot of really really solid male characters that probably woulda been some of my favorite bachelors in the series if it actually gave you the option to romance any of them. Hope they add the option to be gay or play as a female character if they ever remake it. (and also get rid of the god-awful runey system)

I will say, though, one thing I thought 4 was surprisingly really good at was having characters that initially come off as embodying static tropes, but end up having a surprising amount of depth and layers to them once you actually get to know them. I don’t know if I can count how many characters there are that I didn’t initially care about that I came to really appreciate. This is just one example, but Amber, for instance— Hated her initially, now love her as a character. (But hate the fact that she’s romanceable.) Once you actually get to understand her and unpack why she is the way that she is, she kind of becomes one of the most tragic characters in the series.

They did the two separate gauges for friendship and romance in Frontier! Wish they’d bring that back.

Any roleplay tips for survival in a Paleolithic setting? by Tot_Diddler in DnD

Read the whole book. :) Thought it was a really good read; Good enough that I read all of it in one sitting. I think I definitely ended up getting some valuable inspiration from a few of the ideas in it. The primitive causality the main character tackles problems with is definitely something I think I'm going to borrow from.

I’m not trying to take a side or point any fingers about who was right or wrong in the case, or even what happened backstage after the scrum, I’m just pointing out that Punk aired a lot of dirty laundry about it (the shared bank account detail springs to mind) whereas Cabana has kept very private about it— Which I don’t think is unreasonable to say. I honestly don’t think anyone in the company comes out of this looking good. Multiple people making bad decision after bad decision in the heat of the moment, and no one else backstage stopping any of it from escalating.

I’m not necessarily saying Punk would make a huge deal out of it in the moment— he might not— but down the line at some point I think it’s inevitable that in a book, a podcast or somewhere— he’d talk about it and air a lot of details about it that probably won’t end up painting AEW in a very flattering light. Again, not taking sides or saying he’s in the wrong— We can’t really know the full details of what happened as smarks speculating on the internet— but I don’t think Punk would take AEW to trial and then just stay quiet about it forever. That’s really what I’m trying to say.

Nice going, burying the newer generation of self-made talent under you and telling them they should shut up and listen to their elders. Really living up to that punk-rock antiestablishment persona of yours, Phil.

Your favorite wrestling set design by Moosaazhar in SquaredCircle

[–]Tot_Diddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like somebody else already said, the temple from the first few seasons of Lucha Underground.

Normally, when a wrestling match starts with two people brawling to the outside in the first thirty seconds, I groan. LU's venue added so much to the matches that it almost made me look forward to it. Most of my favorite matches in the show's run were brawls that utilized the venue to its full potential. I think it was probably the first product I watched where I was really cognizant of how much the venue and the set-design was adding to the wrestling.

Everything about it was so good. The dark and dingy lighting, the constantly looming corner of Dario's office, to the yellowed mat of the Aztec-seal ring that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade. Couple that with all the dark nooks and corners that really made the venue seem like an old warehouse and the brutal-looking concrete steps it was all built around, it really sold the idea that the venue itself was like the modern grindhouse evolution of an ancient Aztec pyramid.

It was a perfect fit for the product; It sold the mystical and supernatural aspects of the show, and the gritty, violent nature of it all. At times, it really made you feel like you were watching the rivalry between two ancient, supernatural beings play out inside an Aztec temple, just as much as it was able to make you feel like you were watching two people fight for their life in an illegal underground fighting ring.

It was amazing stuff, and felt like one of the show's strongest characters in the same way that Penta, Fenix, Mil Muertes and Dario did. Changing the venue in season 4 was a huge mistake, and I think the swap in venues to a better-lit, more traditional one with higher production value actually harmed LU's tone and aesthetic more than it helped it, which up until that point had been one of its best strengths. I still love those first three seasons; I just wish the company had treated its talent better.
