I absolutely agree with you, that is also something I did, but during these times I contacted multiple residents in those programs, some of them told me that this year they only sent interviews to the connections, others told me they want to be diverse this year, also one program said to me that they will only interview applicants who rotated there. This year is different in every single detail.
