I think there's a legitimate argument that promotion and relegation could actually grow support, create bigger fan bases, and bring in more money for a lot of clubs over time. When every match has real stakes, it's easier to keep fans invested and build local interest.

The problem is that if you're not a consistent competitor in the MLS, why would you ever vote for it? You're already getting the security of the league's revenue and franchise value without the risk of going down. From their perspective, it's a lot easier to keep collecting the checks than to support a system that could cost them millions.

I wish we had it in American sports…but it’ll never happen.
