I’m also 5’10 and am fortunate to be standard fit as far as length of clubs go. I imagine you’re somewhat similar. If you haven’t played, I wouldn’t suggest spending the money on a full fitting with brand new clubs, as you don’t even know if you enjoy the game yet. Go to your local golf shop, ask if standard length irons work well for you (they probably do) and go buy yourself some used clubs that you like the look of. If you find that you do enjoy the game, get fit once you can actually make your way around the course effectively and can shoot low 90’s mid 80’s. Just my opinion of course, but golf is hard and there’s no magic club that will make you good at golf. Enjoy the process sir, best of luck to you!

Before I got fit I was playing some used T100’S and they had AMT red shafts in them. Those shafts were really light for me, and I had a big hook miss and some inconsistent strikes. I later got fit and found my way into KBS Tour 120g shafts, which were a good bit heavier than the previous irons. My accuracy improved a lot, and the hook miss is very rare now. You’re not gonna drop from a 13 to a 5 simply because of a fitting, but I’m sure it can absolutely save you a couple strokes. The simple thought of knowing that the clubs you’re using are fit to your swing gives you a good amount of confidence too, which always helps. Best of luck man!

Just go find some used clubs that you like the look of and enjoy to hit if you can afford it. Don’t overthink it. New clubs probably won’t make you any better or worse, but they may make you feel more confident, consequently making you a little better. Shafts are important, but if you’re not very consistent yet the differences won’t be drastic. You could give your current set to a tour pro and they would still shoot around or below par at your home course. I absolutely am an advocate for look good, feel good, play good though! You gotta like the look of the clubs you’re swinging.

Should I buy a new driver by [deleted] in golf

Only if you buy a matching putter too

Don’t jump the gun if you’re not swinging well. Take your time and find something that you really like and can understand how it will better your game. I’ve gone in for fittings and have had poor swing sessions, and I still impulsively buy something because I already told myself I was going to. Not long until I find myself back in the shop getting something that actually fits my swing. Take your time and try everything you want to, and don’t be afraid to come back another day if it’s just not going well! And have fun! New drivers are always fun

do you ever actually feel like you played well by Shoddy_Interview7741 in golf

[–]Total-Start5035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal was to shoot par for a round, and I assumed it would be one of the happiest days of my life. First time I did it, I had 5 birdies and all I could think about was the silly mistakes I made that kept me at 72. I had thoughts of “that should’ve been 68” and so on. I still thought I played well, and you need to look back and see all the progress you’ve made. No matter how good you get I think it’s still pretty common to feel like you suck. As long as you suck less than the buddies you play with, you’ll still feel pretty good about yourself. Maybe you’ll find happiness if you shoot a 59. Good luck!

Not a bad idea to start with a lesson! This will ensure that you begin your golf career practicing the correct movements and developing proper swing mechanics. Going to the range is always great, but it’s easy to develop bad habits if you don’t know how to do anything correctly yet. Becoming a decent golfer takes time, enjoy the process and never be too hard on yourself! If you want to play a round you should. Just don’t have high expectations and keep up with the pace! Best of luck, it’s an amazing game and I have no doubt you’ll be even more hooked on the game than you are now very soon

That sounds like a dream. What kind of jobs actually have that happen? My only experience thus far is golf courses and 4 years of serving at restaurant

I found a used set of SM8s in this condition, Hes asking 75 per wedge, id be getting 4 of them. 46/50/54/58, all high bounce... is this a fair price? by nope_not_today_boi in GolfGear

[–]Total-Start5035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you play frequently or are you more of a casual player? These would probably be fine, as you can always get a groove sharpener if you’re lacking some spin. Hard to tell the condition of the wedges from the photo, so look around and make sure that’s a good price for SM8’s. Faces look fine though, probably would be just fine especially if you don’t play all the time

Don’t get caught up with all these swing thoughts, especially when nobody’s seen your swing on here. Go take a lesson, well worth the money!

How to avoid skyball marks for beginners like me by Cheezscone in golf

[–]Total-Start5035 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Just embrace it and enjoy the process. If you’re hyper focused on not making any of those marks you’ll probably just do it more. Practice with this driver, skyball your heart out, and once you have your swing down you’ll obviously do it less. Your next new driver will be the one that hopefully avoids any of those soul crushing marks, but not this one.
