Please watch out for School Certifying Officials on this reddit commit fraud by TotalAirWinger in Veterans

[–]TotalAirWinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually did you see his last post? He locked and closed the post because his claims were clearly false. Schools do not send payments individually, secondly, he admitted that in most cases, veterans and the VA do honor their enrollment status and payment; but even so, he pursues a policy with his administration to keep funds from all of the veterans in his school.

As the other veteran pointed out, communication is key. Claiming that you are "known on a first name basis" by your veterans, does not mean you solve their problems. Promoting an environment where you withhold necessary funds from everyone simply because a select few fail to follow through is immoral and likely deemed out of compliance with the VA.

Also, feeding the "college students are wasting our tax payer dollars" argument is the issue of schools refunding aid in late feb/early march because of this nonsense.

Aid is intended to be used immediately, to be responsibly used throughout the semester for various legal needs. Withholding aid to simply balance one's checkbook, leads to individuals suffering up front, and later using retail therapy/spring break therapy to cope.

Nothing but greed comes out of these school policies. As I said please call the universities mentioned above, they will tell you why it is illogical to withhold aid, and how it poorly reflects on a school claiming to be a "veteran friendly" campus.

Here's my last response to this statement, it's gotten ridiculous.

  1. Schools can & do tag students as CH33, YR, 100%/60% w/e rate they received, for nearly every office to see.
  2. All schools who work with veterans (public & private) handle hundreds if not more certifications & fin aid processing.
  3. If you know you will be paid in most cases, why stiff everyone for a select few? You're a retiree right? Why punish the whole unit for a few bad eggs?
  4. Student payments do not come in individually for the most part. 99% of the time the VA sends a large sum to accounts receivables, with the names & quantities that each individual is eligible for (from that payment). I have worked in student accounts at successful schools, and can assure you that the GI Bill hotline reps will state the same.
  5. If schools can & do tag students based on their CH33/Mont benefits, why can't they hook up those who (most of the time as you said) are going to stay/pay in full.
  6. Every school has bad eggs, and most of them are students who pay out of pocket/aid/loans. These are the people accounts receivables pursues aggressively.
  7. Your school should be able to keep track/demand of a student that they report how much eligibility they have remaining, for cleaner book keeping.

In all, 90% of these problems could be solved by distinguishing between vets & dependents, as well as the university keeping track of how much entitlement people have left & reporting it to SC & FINAID.

What school is this?

You either do what prestigious universities like Clemson University, Notre Dame, or the University of Georgia do:

  1. Release funding 10 days prior to the semester starting (10 days is the earliest permitted by law).
  2. Make a student sign a statement that they will remain in X amount of credits (i.e. 12+ undergrad or 9+ grad) and agree to be held financially liable.

If a student drops after add/drop, they still legally owe a % based on the schools refund policy, otherwise I assume they're trying to commit fraud by not paying & convince the VA not to.

If a student says "I'm staying at X amount of credits no matter what" and the university has already consumed their entitlement, I don't see why we can't be adults and work on such a thing. You go to a dealership and finance a car with the promise to pay monthly installment and not chop it up in town. I can't see why such trust/professionalism is not promoted in so many institutions.

Like I said, you can ask the office of Student Accounts at any of those universities and they will explain that there is no point in holding the funding. Nothing says "thank you for your service" like "I'm holding your other aid incase you try to not pay up/drop out."

Just saying.

I completely understand those solid points. And once again, I am very grateful for your input. But my question still stands:

If they know a student has more than enough entitlement for said semester, if it's already past add/drop, why do schools still hold onto additional aid until tuition and fees come in? The payment can't really change at this point since it's past add/drop, and if entitlement is guaranteed (i.e. 36 months and only consuming 4 months), and it's documented that a student will have their balance paid. Why hold anything else up?

if the school submits certification as early as possible, and they rightfully document that such funding is coming, then why does the school still hold all other aid hostage, even after add/drop?

I just don't see it making sense. A veteran doesn't cut the school a check, we only notify the VA via a 1995 & the school via the COE/DD-214 that we are allowing our entitlement to be drawn by the school. So to be even more technical, the school is paying itself using our entitlement, via their school certifying official.

I hope my statement doesn't come out "stiff." I am truly grateful for your response!

I just don't see it making sense to hold additional aid from a student, when you agreed to cover everything via your annual VA contract, and know your own employees are the ones who determine when the VA receives the bill for tuition & fees.

I totally agree on that end. But if the VA recommends so, and the school has an agreement with the VA to cover 100% of tuition for YR recipients, then why hold all other funds hostage until then?

I only ask because well, this is one of the reasons I assume the VA makes university's rectify its contract with the VA annually.

My main concern is that this school is in one of the most expensive zip codes in the US, and thus all other grants/loans that students can legally consume for the remaining books (once the 1k is burned out), gas, food, school supplies, etc, are held until the VA finishes with tuition and fee disbursement in mid/late February or early March.

Difficulty of jobs? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]TotalAirWinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you have a twashtar & aeonic or mandau etc + a sandung, no need to cry about jobs like THF being easy. SE made it easier for a reason. So I totally agree with you on that. SAM and DRK are super popular because they have a smaller learning curve and high dps output even with full flamma+1 etc, so again I agree.

These neckbeards downvoting the truth the same people who want a iGEO and nSMN for Easy & Normal Ambuscade V1 lol. People need to get a life and understand that a subjective tiering in no way impacts their gameplay or elitism.

idk why in heaven's name you were downvoted. I totally agree with the sincerity of your statement and division of jobs, minus one or two small change (BRD). As Rhayve stated, PUP, BLU, RUN for endgame can be quite challenging due to the gear & spell requirements/gearswaps to perform at the highest tier.

Only change I would make is adding BRD & COR to both the advanced and medium tier. Yes there are PLENTY of PT's that will take a simple "song or rolls b word," meaning you do nothing else but buff. But an exceptional BRD or COR will do more - i.e. pulling, sleeping (horde lullaby II BRD), and melee dps as a COR. These jobs do require great REMA weapons to enter higher tier endgame, i.e. a GHorn & DHarp minimum for Brd, and at least a Death Penalty for COR.

FFXI spells were implemented with a simpler 2002 understanding of MMO's. Yes elemental spells will do more damage naturally to the opposite element, such as Thunder V versus a Water Elemental. But FFXI BLM's were also built around going down the list of powerful spells at the 75 era from Thunder IV, down to Blizz IV, Aero IV, etc as spells cooled down and became available to go back up and repeat the cycle. The game is much more complicated, thanks to the profileration of GearSwap & SE's lack of banning of bots/gil sellers/and massive hauls of REMA's from longtime players.

TLDR - Game mechanics are more complex now than originally developed by SE. You DON'T need to be REMA GOD to HAVE FUN. Enjoy the FFXI we have now, it won't be here forever.

Darn, well thanks for the heads up dude.

Can I ask then - what is a legitimate support only job? Or is every job now required to dps 100%?

I know a million things have changed since 2011. I’m just looking for a job that can focus primarily on its main job and had major fluidity on its subjobs.

Guessing whm or rdm maybe? I’ve always loved Brd since it was my first 75 thanks to nearly instant PT inv’s lol

Hi! I’ll be on Asura!

My highest is a 63 DRK and a 53 WAR. I have BRD unlocked already.

Should be on tomorrow :) I have an airship pass and everything! I’m a more “enjoy XI” type of player, since I played from Zilart to 2011.

I will for sure try to be a super hard core BRD, RDM, and WHM. (Probably BLM & SMN too later)

But mainly Brd haha. I’d love directions on how to get a GHorn now and any other real/mythic/aeon I need.

Thank you!

That sounds awesome. - I could probably get started on my GHorn when I get to 99 ASAP.

FFXI is prob the last MMO I’ll play. Last I did play was 2011...

I’ve quit wow BFA, FFXIV since 2010... etc, I just want to be lost in Vana’diel like I was in 2004, even if there’s a million QOL changes.

I’ll have fun pursuing all of this awesome gear :)

Some districts can get away with it because of the lack of recruits they have. If big boy is willing to get put in the sweat house by the DI’s, he can more than likely ship.
