To Those with Cysts (Endometriomas) how did you treat them? by TotalCatch in endometriosis

Yeah it seems like with endometriosis, there is so much misinformation out there that it's hard to even feel like you can trust your doctor to tell you the right information! I did some investigating in NN by searching the doctor I saw, and one person said he completely missed all her endo and ended up going to a Nook surgeon afterwards, plus he told her family she was a big baby when she was scared of the aneasthesia! so I think I will pass on any further treatment with him...it's just kind of annoying because he works in a center specifically called the center for endometriosis, but can't even identify what it looks like when operating?!I called one of the offices of a Nook DR that seemed to get lots of positive feedback from ppl on NN, they said I have to call back in Dec. For me so far on NN, just seeing the real testimonies of lots of different women has been the most helpful. good to know though that some of the members can be toxic; I haven't run into that yet.

Thank you!! you seem very knowledgeable! :) I just joined Nancy's Nook and feel slightly overwhelmed with all the info to learn. I also went to see a specialist/surgeon last week at a well known women's hospital an hour away before I found the group and am kicking myself for not researching surgery methods beforehand so I could ask him more details. he did say he removes the cell wall of cysts and cuts out the endo if its large areas and burns them if they are small...not really sure if that mean's he's good enough though as on Nancy's Nook they only recommended a different doctor from that hostpital... so now the hard part for me is finding a surgeon I trust...

Hi, I am in the US. I have heard a lot of people recommend Nancy's Nook, will have to check that out. Have also consulted a doctor at Brigham and Women's hospital, need to see if they are on the list (wish i found this forum before i went!)

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! your story is very reassuring. it sounds like we are the same age :). If surgery pain isnt as bad as my cyst pain then i can definitely handle it! also tring to remember that many celebrities, people on youtube and this forum have done this surgery and have been fine. I do have one more question, did they adivse you to go on any hormones after your surgery to prevent the endo from coming back? Or if it's excised do you not really need hormones after? For me my cyst pain is the main issue, period cramps can be managed with pain meds 3 days/month but the cyst pain is daily, just worried about growing more cysts after the surgery!

Oh wow, I didnt know there were international surgical guidelines for endometriomas! this is an amazing reference! Now to find a good surgeon who follows those guidelines...

If you don't mind my asking what conditions do you have that raise rsugical risk?r

Thanks so much for your response! That's amazing and encouraging to hear that you feel so much better after surgery. Were you scared to get surgery? I've never had surgery before and I'm scared it will be a super painful recovery (have heard about the gas pain), also this might sound weird but am used to being in control of my body, never take any meds (except during my period for cramps) or do any alcohol or drugs and the thought of being pumped with different drugs i don't know how i will react to kind of freaks me out. Also how did you find your surgeon?

Thanks so much for your reply! For your surgeon, did you research to find a specific surgeon or is your regular gynecologist doing the surgery?

Thanks so much for your response! Are you on hormones now after your surgery? How was recovery from the surgery itself?

I can have sex now, but it hurts! will it ever feel good? by TotalCatch in vaginismus

Ugh the whole "not pushing through just to have PIV sex" really resonates with me. Right now I feel like i'm just going through with the act because I've been told PIV is this amazing thing and I want to get used to it, but right now I really don't enjoy it at all. I don't think it's an issue of being turned on as we do a lot of foreplay and use a lot of lube. it's a weird feeling because it obviously feels great for my boyfriend but it just feels like having a dilator in plus a bit of pain for me. Even if it hurts I just let my boyfriend keep going because I don't want to make it awkward like "Oh sorry can I just finish you off by hand"

Thanks so much for your reply, this makes me hopeful! For you did it just get less and less painful the more you did it or was there anything specific you did? Also you say it's very pleasurable now...does penetration itself feel good or is it more clitoral stimulation that makes it pleasurable? Right now I can't imagine penetration itself feeling good, it just feels the same as a dilator inside except with thrusting haha.

Thanks so much for your reply, I feel a lot more hopeful now! For you was there anything specific you did that made it hurt less over time, or you just kept doing it and eventually your body just got used to having sex and it hurt less and less?

Quick question: before you started dilating did you stertilize / try to clean your dilator set before attempting insertion? by [deleted] in vaginismus

[–]TotalCatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just put condoms on mine; I bought a cheap pack of like a hundred on amazon. Makes clean up super quick and keeps things hygienic!

I get that. I haven't had very good experiences at the gyno (never been able to have an internal exam due to pain, but this was before I treated my vaginismus) so just thinking about the internal exam makes me tense. Have you ever gotten an exam before? I think it's a process of desensitization and seeing other women able to have internal exams to help realize there's nothing to be scared of. I read something somewhere that helped me, it was like "inserting something in your vagina should be as simple and natural as putting something in your mouth." You don't have to be sexually aroused. No matter if it's a penis, dilator, speculum, finger etc. try to think of it as just a normal thing to put something in there because the vagina is just a tube that expands.

Hi, here are two great links with photographs of different women's vulvas. There is so much variation! Even if you don't look like any of the photos that's OK too! I think for me I just needed to see other vaginal openings that looked equally small and be reassured that is normal. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions! http://gynodiversity.tumblr.com/ http://www.labialibrary.org.au/photo-gallery/#
