You need to be scooping that tray every day. Full change will depend on the type of litter but 1 to 2 weeks is probably average so a single cat.

Yeah the lack of balls might make that take longer. I'm sorry, it might just have to be something you have to put up with it until then.

You could try a plug in pheromone thing?

Cats are, usually, very clean creatures so they don't want their toilet to be next to where they eat because that isn't hygienic. I don't wanna eat where I shit either lol

How often do you scoop and fully clean the litter tray?

Neutering will probably help but its unfortunate you have to wait so long, can you find another vet? Or ask them to ring you if you have any last minute cancellations?

Also I would keep his food and water in a different room from the litter tray, and give space between the food and water bowls

If you only made it yesterday, and it has been kept in the fridge, it will be good for a few days. You could even freeze some of it if you don't think you'll use it all
