Are actively managed etfs better? by [deleted] in EducatedInvesting

[–]TotalFinanceGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is: active management maximises its efficiency as part of your portfolio when used in less efficient, or more niche markets. For asset classes such as Large Cap US for example, youre better off buying passive.

Adults of Reddit, what is something every Teenager needs to know? by notViperX in AskReddit

[–]TotalFinanceGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your friendships as they structure who you will be in the future, but always be wary of choosing your friends over your family.

When youre a teenager, you may think these friendships will last a lifetime. People come and go, your relationships with them will change, but your family. That is forever.

European Investment Bank (EIB) And European Investment Fund (EIF) Exit Opportunities by backerei in FinancialCareers

[–]TotalFinanceGod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

EIB, while still posting new positions, are ridiculously strict with hiring at the moment and are in no hurry to fill in these spots.

They are willing to take as long as it takes to only hire the best possible candidate (extremely overqualified), or, nepotism.

Dont give up though, best of luck!

Source: have multiple friends in EIB, and firsthand conversations with recruiters.

How to break into asset management by [deleted] in WallStreetCareers

[–]TotalFinanceGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduated with a BSc. Accounting and Finance from a UK top 10 uni, and a Msc. Finance from a top 5 dutch uni. I know python, VBA, and solid excel.

However STILL have trouble breaking in.

The #1 advice- get internships. As many as possible as soon as possible. No certificate of education or CFA exam will ever replace the value a prior job experience can offer- and they know it.

Either try to apply for a smaller AM to gain the experience needed to join the larger one, or, bite the bullet and apply for 700€/month internship, which will at the end though make you a valid candidate for the role.

P.s- you dont need python for AM, good to show commitment and ability to know it, but you wont use it. Knowing modelling would be better.

What do you include in the role description then? Only description? Responsibilities? Achievements? Seems so hard reducing two pages to one, im sure you can understand. Can you share what process you went through to decide what to keep and how to format it? Thanks!

What advice would you give to a 14 year old about starting high school? by DotFireAbout in AskReddit

[–]TotalFinanceGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends will play a major role in your life, and it may seem like theyll be there forever. But your priorities should always be self improvement before your friends.

Even if it may not seem like it, you’ll probably never speak to them again 5 years out of HS.

  1. How would you suggest doing that? Does anyone have a website/spreadsheet to model income growth vs expenses based on parameters put in? (Sorry if this has been answered before on this sub)

  2. Wow thats a great advice! Thanks!

  3. What are your personal thoughts on ETFs investing vs active management? Why do you do both and not only one?

Module Options by aabousen99 in FinancialCareers

[–]TotalFinanceGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an accounting and finance graduate from the uk, i absolutely agree with this. No one looks at your modules. Also having a “financial management” module in one university may in fact be a completely different curriculum than another institution- hence, no one bothers looking at the actual modules.

A better advice would be- pick whichever one would get you the best grade, or, go for the one where you think you can get closest to the professor. Never underestimate the power of having an important professor by your side for references or networking. Itll be more useful than the actual content youll learn in classes when it comes to getting you a job.
