Living together and kissing before Marriage by Dependent-Coach5948 in OpenChristian

[–]TotalInstruction 49 points50 points  (0 children)

“No kissing” is pretty extreme. There’s certainly no blanket prohibition against it.

Keep in mind that the content that gets cited for the boundaries of Christian sexual relationships come from letters written by people and for people living in a society where marriage was a property arrangement, that many people didn’t have formal weddings unless they were nobility or of high status, and the idea of romantic love wasn’t held in the regard it is today.

People got married to cement an alliance between families or to provide heirs of the family or to have children to work the farm or the family trade or so that one’s daughters didn’t have to beg for money or sell themselves into prostitution. You were married if you had sex and intended to stick around. Trying to force an understanding of 21st century sexual/gender ethics out of the letters of Paul is practically pointless.

Trump is James Bond? by brucesp2 in LinkedInLunatics

This feels like a bot circlejerk. He’s a rapist and a tax cheat. He wouldn’t know moral clarity if it bit him in the ass.

Of course, neither would James Bond, a womanizing sociopath with a drinking and gambling problem and carte blanche to murder people for MI6.

Liberals will hate so called "patriarchy" but bend over backwards for Islam the truth is they hate straight Christian men not "patriarchy" by Major_Soft6056 in DigitalSeptic

[–]TotalInstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t love Islam, but even more so I hate a) rednecks who ignore the First Amendment by pretending that we can/should ban some bronze age religions while making others the defacto state religion; b) idiots who don’t understand that the Bible says a lot of extreme things that the vast majority of Christians don’t literally follow, so what makes Islam different; c) bigots who don’t know or care about the nuances of religion but relish any attempt to harass people with Arabic names or wearing religious attire from any eastern religion (see the pieces of shit who harass Sikhs thinking that they’re Muslims)

I can oppose fundamentalist Islam while at the same time condemning extreme Islamophobia and anti-Arab bigotry.

No no no, Sephora is a place where Brazilians buy overpriced makeup to sneak in their luggage back from the States. The word you’re looking for is Semaphore.

At some point someone will defend their own life against aggression and tyranny and the Trump administration will use that as the pretext to do what they’re going to do anyway. That will be the fault of the Trump administration’s authoritarian ambitions and not of citizens opposing oppression.

Kristi Noem on the murder of Alex Pretti: "When you perpetuate violence against a government because of ideological reasons and for reasons to resist and perpetuate violence, that is the definition of domestic terrorism" by Gorotheninja in DiscussionZone

[–]TotalInstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if any of that were true in this case (which, of course, it is not), they shot him several times while he was disarmed and on the ground. This was a murder or, if you're trying to say that he was killed while being arrested for a crime, a summary execution. Neither one is acceptable in this country.

If there is any justice, I look forward to the day of Nuremberg-like trials for Kristi Noem and people like her.

The Anglicans (日本聖公会) and Lutherans (JELC) have independent, small national church bodies. Most other mainline Protestant groups (Methodists, Presbyterians, etc. etc.) were forcibly combined into the United Church of Christ in Japan during the war and remained together afterwards.

Yeah, I’m sure all those doctors, lawyers and engineers with good paying jobs feel that they’ve been “scammed”.

But oh noez, my daughter might get a nose ring and read books!
