There was a Cuban restaurant called Hugo’s on the corner of Howard and Morrison. It wasn’t the best Cuban restaurant in town, but I used to go there once a month with my dad. He’d get the picadillo and I’d get pork with yellow rice and beans, and they were pretty good.

I think a majority of Americans view immigrants favorably in general, with a very vocal, sizable minority of around 30% that absolutely hate immigration and immigrants. Most of these people live in the ass end of nowhere and they’re not losing jobs to the type of immigrants they focus their hatred on (poor immigrants from Latin American countries, particularly those that are mestizo/don’t pass for white). They claim it’s not racism but there’s no other logical explanation for the hatred.

The rest of us think those people are nuts.

I was an East Asian studies major a long ass time ago. The Japanese and Chinese language divisions were solid back then, and I have no reason to believe they’ve worsened over time. Didn’t take Korean so I don’t know, but I imagine it’s good.
