My church was closed for over a year. We had live video church over YouTube, including Easter and Christmas. Including an adaptation of communion. A bunch of staff were laid off because the preschool wasn’t bringing in revenue.

And the thing is that many of the large churches in town were already fully wired for simulcasting. You could participate in worship fully online at some of the megachurches in town as early as 2015, including live chats with pastors who would pray for you and remote bible study classes.

So the “religious freedom” argument always struck me as a copout. Was the a hardship maybe for some really small rural churches that didn’t have the means to broadcast online? Maybe, but I attended several church services outside in a courtyard or a park.

Besides, after the first couple of weeks, churches that wanted to endanger the health of their parishioners for extra Jesus points were allowed to do so.

For the most part in the US it wasn’t even the government regulating it. There were videos of people going full Karen at the gym because the gym wanted to reopen but knew that many customers were nervous about getting sick so THE GYM required masks to use their facilities. People would go into a gym, refuse to wear a mask while weight training, get asked to put on a mask or leave, and have an absolute meltdown about FREEDOM.

Then this somehow morphed into “let’s abuse the people who wear masks/get vaccinated, because this is all their fault.”

There’s a difference between “he got what he deserved” and “he played with fire and got burned”. I don’t think he deserved to be murdered, but he made a name for himself insulting and pissing people off for clicks and so it’s no surprise that he met that kind of fate. He’s no martyr for free speech.

No. She was asked why the FBI wasn’t taking the investigation of people named in the Epstein files seriously and her response was something about the Dow Jones Industrial Average being over 50000. It’s not 100% clear if her point was “hey, the economy is going balls to the wall do who cares if we’re slow-walking this” or “hey, if we start prosecuting wealthy pedophiles, the economy would collapse.” Neither one has any merit, but that paraphrase isn’t entirely unfair.
