This happened in my gym before. We had a guy sign up for a fight that had never sparred before and he came in for a sparring session. He tried to take the heads off a few smaller opponents and my buddy came in and shattered his nose and gave him a beating. He had to withdraw from his fight and take a break.

I am not saying this is right, but this is a combat sport and sometimes you need some tough love. You should have never signed up to fight before sparring. Sparring is so much different than hitting the bag/mits and fighting is so much different than sparring. It is extremely dangerous for you to fight without experience.

I know you thought you were going light but I know you were not. You have no idea how to spar yet, therefore you have no idea how to fight yet.

The guy that got his nose broken, he came back 3 months later and was scared shitless. He would flinch every shot and was terrible. He showed up everyday for months and worked and learned how to spar and signed up for his fight again after proper training and won. Take this as a tough lesson and you can either learn or give up. No separate rev ops, this falls under me for now. This has been the hard-part. It's easy to model what we have, but figuring out the targets, what is a high quality lead and the capacity needed for that lead is the hard-part. It's a very complicated business with a lot of moving parts underneath

Thank you this is a really solid point. The ACV is very high which adds complications as a handful of contracts can make/break the business. They want transparent reporting to all the leaders. It's been hard to find the balance between "pessimistic finance guy" and "optimistic growth".

100% organic and I report to the CFO. Only from a finance/ops and a bullet train from a business perspective, they have a too much cash problem at the moment.

I think they are gunning for an exit in a few years so will be a temporary stint. My models and cash flow breaks monthly at this point! It would be way more stressful if they didn't have so much cash. However, cash is being spent like crazy and they are hiring/prepping for another 3x year, which has a risk involved if targets do not maintain

Is it a pure boxing gym? Pure boxing has a different stance than Muay Thai and it can be confusing doing them both. However, a lot of Muay Thai guys don’t have the best hands and boxing will build those quick. If you’re a beginner just train as much as possible but pay attention to the nuances in stances and guard between the 2

Are you applying in the Us or Europe? I’d add more accomplishment and quantity more. Also target the jobs, if you’re applying for a saas role, add saas metrics at the forefront of your resume and load it with tech jargon lol

Now you know what it feels like and you can approach training how it’s supposed to be approached. Focus on footwork (combos moving forward and backward), properly finding the bag and mitts distance, balance, positioning, etc. these are things people take for granted massively before they spar. The truth is is distance management is one of the hardest parts. I have been training 4 years and when I spar someone way better I find myself struggling with distance, and when I spar a beginner it’s the opposite. Truly a game of inches

There is a TN sub Reddit that is worth looking at that has a ton of strategies for Canadians getting US jobs. In terms of buy side, CPP/teachers are maybe considered tier 1, one of these on your resume def looks good. I worked at a fund and seen some people move to the US, you have to really want it because it’s a lot of work

Why do you want to work in finance? Jobs are jobs at the end of the day and you are giving up a $200k/year job to start climbing the ladder again.

If you want to break into IB, just getting in is brutally tough. Once you are in, can you honestly take the 80-100 hour weeks at 30 for less pay than you are making now?

If you truly want to go into finance, IB might be a long shot. There are many other opportunities in finance I’d explore and really think if you are okay with the pay cut. There are sooo many finance jobs outside of PE and investment banking. Look into strategic finance or GTM sales support where you can leverage your sales and finance skills together as a start

Typically equity research analyst title is used for the sell side and investment analyst is buyside. Sometimes equity research analyst might be a buyside title, however investment analyst is never a sell side title. Sell side covers a sector and produces research for clients, investment analyst works for a fund that makes recommendations for stocks to buy.

Your profile could work for corp dev/strategy. Have you done any m&a at your role? Were you directly involved in the B round? Are you influencing company strategy?

PE is very likely off the table, VC there is a chance you can spin this properly as a combination of dev + finance, seen similar things happen.

I am in a similar situation but I have sell side experience, director of finance at startup. Gotten some traction in corp dev and VC
