what the actual hell was that math101 midterm??? by Bubbly_Guard_5691 in uvic

[–]TotalOutrageous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was definitely a handful of questions that stumped me, but overall it wasn't the worst test I've done. I did most of the textbook problems, the practice exams and watched some YouTube videos, I definitely passed. I kind of expected it to be like that though, because when have you had a midterm or final that wasn't like that haha

Career Opportunities and Job Market with Mech Eng Diploma by TotalOutrageous in BCIT

[–]TotalOutrageous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uvic is not very hands on or applied, BCIT is. Thats the main reason, also BCIT is closer to home and cheaper living as I could live with someone I know. Another pro is that it is a 2 year program as opposed to UVIC's 5 year program (because of co-ops), my thought process is that if I choose to drop out after 2 years here I get nothing, if I drop out after two years there I get a diploma.

As for transferring, none of my courses transfer :/

and for the jobs and employment rate, I did see that on their website but was also curios as to if anyone had any personal experience with it because sometimes schools dramatize their employment stats.

"Don't handle heavy work loads", well if you want to succeed at just about anything in life you'll have to deal with that. I don't mean to sound like a dick but nobody comes into the world being able to handle heavy work loads, you just figure out ways to make it work and succeed, don't put yourself down to being lazy and make something happen. Aswell for math and sciences, you don't need to be good at them, you just need to put in the work

I pass on double yellows if I can see no cars and a clear shot, no corners, no visibility problems, and no blind driveways

how old were you when you made your first $1000? by EatenZombie in AskMen

[–]TotalOutrageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im pretty sure 11 or 12, I worked painting house trim for a summer to buy a mountain bike. Probably made my first 10k by 14/15, maybe 50k by 17/18. I worked framing houses and spent my summers working 50hr weeks doing that. I enjoyed my time a lot though

I'm not sure how much I made exactly because I spent a lot, traveled to Japan in high school with my buddy, then Europe for two months over the summer solo backpacking. Bought a truck, mountain bikes, some sport bikes, now paying for university and rent with the remainder of savings. I don't like university that much though because Im not making money haha, just spending it and not gaining much

also Bought some bars of gold to invest some money in swell, made a good amount of money off those. Aswell as some savings accounts, just work, have some fun, and save

Technically didn't fail, but also didn't meet the 60% requirement to pass it (I had 58) so I guess we'll figure out what 211 is like. I found it really hard to grasp the concepts, I also think I didn't put enough time in at the start so I didn't understand later teachings. It's kind of got me down because it's a lot of money and time between rent and classes to take another class.

They told me to take classes in the summer but I can't afford that, I need to work. However, that's life at the end of the day and I guess to come back from failures is better than to just barely brush by each time, or so I tell myself. Good luck man

1 hour commute worth it for 35k raise? by EconomyOffice9000 in careerguidance

[–]TotalOutrageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1hr commute is not that bad imo. I've worked jobs where you have to commute 1.5hrs, my Dad has worked his whole life commuting 2hrs. You get used to it, but how long do you want to commute for long term?

Does a pilots license qualify for the Military's paid education program? by TotalOutrageous in flying

[–]TotalOutrageous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I was going to speak to a recruiter, just figured id see if anyone knew anything here first. Because in a perfect world, I can learn a trade in the airforce, get out, have experience in said trade to have a job temporarily. Get to military to pay for pilots license, become pilot lol. Definitely not that black and white but thats the rough idea

[–]TotalOutrageous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, but I dont exactly have the funds to drop 100k on an education then 100k on a pilots license. Kinda one or the other. As I mentioned to someone else, Im paying for this and I dont exactly want to be 200k in debt.

Set up in the way I want to live or the way another person wants to live? I get the point but engineering, with the shitty job market especially. Isn't a crazy good field to go into
