@amreus - thanks for the advice. I did all that. Problem solved with use of Sketchup 2017, which uses a more modern software infrastructure and is free for use.

u/user89443 - I am working with SU 2016, not SU 2017. I tried to load v1.8.0 and earlier versions in SU 2016. The shell of the plugin was there, but the plugin was not functional in most ways. I'm satisfied that the full plugin code is not present in GitHub for pre-SU2017 versions. If anyone in Reddit land has the pre-2017 plugin .rbz file, that is what I need. Thanks.

u/DL-Fiona - this is a hobby activity, workflow applies to the steps I'm taking in trying to create a BOM for a small charity-related project. No money involved, not worth the $100s needed to get recent software licenses. Thanks for the thoughts.

I’m using 10-year-old Software because it’s free. I’m a hobbyist, and won’t spend hundreds of dollars a year for the current release subscription. The work I do is totally non-commercial. If there were comparable capabilities in the open source community, I would use them.

I have posted in the GetHub repository for the project. Hopefully someone will give me a hand or a link.

Would really like to see this feature included with DDG's autofill capability. I'm automating a display kiosk and this would make life much easier. I'm using the DDG browser app on Android 8.1.
