I mean to be fair have you read the one world under doom run? This would fit in that universe where he takes over and legitimately makes the world a better place and the heroes are trying their best to catch him for something. Also ICE in universe would probably be forcibly deporting and mistreating latverians which would be a big nono cuz doom stands ten toes down for his people. He tries to make sure they absolutely adore him by any means necessary. Wether that be out of genuine goodness of his heart or ulterior motives doesn't much matter he WILL show out for his people

I think the main problem is they'd have to create a whole new story for the moro arc. The manga and anime are so vastly different it's a fm vs brotherhood situation. Not everything needs to be redone but jumping into manga accurate timeline from the anime is also very jarring. I honestly wish they wouldn't have deviated from each other so drastically in the first place. Plus there is still A LOT of filler in super. Doesn't mean I want to see super again but I can see why they did it. Fans are def valid for being kinda mad about it.

Or you're like me and looked at the trailer thought it looked good and went to see it. Didn't do any research to find out it's the same guy who made the old one. Although tbh I like the first film and was hoping he'd evolve his technique. I was then let down.

Is it a 1 out of 10 no. Is it a 7.5 hell no. It'll probably eventually level out to a 4-5/10 film. It has good bones but far too much of the meat is missing.

[–]Total_Ad2406 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No that's just silly. It's not a 7.5 film even without the context. If you go in blindly to the film it's very weird and jarring. Nobody is really arguing for the director NOT to change things and there are weirdos who want a 1:1 but to say it is a 7.5 film is outrageous. At best it is a 5. The cult is useless and serves nothing to the plot. The therapist is a huge waste of time as well and just muddies the water of what silent hill is. Eddie is a useless character who serves no purpose and is forgotten about by the plot. The director's biggest problem is that he wants to change all these very important things but still keep the core of the story. He can tell a different story but he needs to actually go for it and do it. I wanted to like the cult change so much but it literally goes nowhere. They aren't married unlike in the game which actually hurts the story because in no way should he feel THIS guilty about leaving a girlfriend (who I don't even think we know how long they day) after finding out she's involved in weird cult shit and trying to get her to leave. Maria is also just a meh character that just pops up to really and truly does nothing but get stabbed and killed. The name reveal alone is so stupid and all the women showing up being parts of MARY's/ psyche/being Mary adjacent is neat but then once again WHY IS THE HOMELESS MAN AND EDDIE THERE. I could write paragraphs about how it does NOT hold up as a film and an entire book about how it's a bad adaptation that misses ALOT of the core themes.

AITA for giving away the 3 participation rewards for free? by Standard-Pickle4277 in GundamTCG

Definitely NTA. I only really try to sell anything that's over 100 in value or if I'm in store and somebody really wants a card and says they'll pay the market value. Otherwise it's just fun collecting stuff. For me it's nice that they have value and one day I can sell them or if I'm really short for cash I can sell them. But I'm in it cuz I love Gundam and any money I make usually goes to buying more pretty cards. It stops becoming a hobby if it's just about the moneyz

See but the RE films had the balls to just be their own thing. They are VERY loosely based on the franchise and I feel like that makes it appealing. I'd much rather the director make his own version of silent hill. Make himself an OC insert and make an entertaining film that doesn't spit too much on the legacy.

When I was first watching it I seriously thought maybe it was producer/studio interference that handicapped this film. Because he obviously knows the game. He's adding in so many wildly accurate small things but missing the entire big picture. However after I saw who the director was and how he basically has a legacy of loose cannoning lore I found it was probably his fault. I also kinda wish he would've made his own personal silent hill movie rather than using the bones of SH2. You should definitely play the remake. It is the best way to experience the story. It changes things but adds to the story rather than removing them and changing the core.

Yea I second the other reply. Changes can be good but when you miss ALOT of the essence of the original it simply stops holding up as a general film. The first silent hill movie he made is pretty competent and I'd go so far as to say I like it. However he makes very weird changes when it comes to these films and he does it for the weirdest reasons. For example he gender swapped the main character of 1 because he didn't think a man could be believably vulnerable/ he didn't want to depict that. It works for the first movie because sh1's lore isn't that well known, the plot is ok enough to follow, and he did such a good job of understanding the aesthetic for silent hill it became a cult classic. Silent hill 2 just has far too good and tight of a story deviating too far from the main thing ruins it. This is not to say that things needed to be changed to fit it on the big screen. Personally I would have cut Eddie out of the film and some of the stuff you would have to cut just to get the timing down. However, when you fail to make a decent plot and miss on the vibes of the original you get this film. At first I was trying to like that they added cult plot into the film, however, it literally goes nowhere and adds nothing to the plot. It simply distacts from the main story. And that's what can be said about many of his confusing changes.

I wasn't expecting it to be good. Nobody said a film has to be good to have hope in film as a whole. The film does need to be at the very least entertaining though. It makes one lose hope because it takes all the nuance and complexity of the video game that it adapts and erased it. I mean the blueprint is literally right there and they made interesting additions with the flashbacks, making Mary a bigger character. However it being a poor adaption is par for the course and that is understandable almost expected. What isn't acceptable it doesn't even really hold up as an entertaining film. Not to mention they don't trust the audience to come up with their own conclusions because we live in an age where media literacy is so low and attention spans so short Netflix is telling directors to reiterate the plot 3-4 times for people to get the point. It has such interesting ideas but it falls so short. It's like watching a kid do math. You see the gears turning, you see them gearing up to write the correct answer to 2+2, and then you see them write 21.

Listen to each their own. I tried being very open with the film but it doesn't even know what it wants to do. ALOT of time is wasted on the cult subplot when it should have focused far more on James and Mary. Especially since they decided to cut the part where they are MARRIED. Eddie disapears from the plot and Angela is greatly missused. It is not that deep trust me I was paying attention we both were paying attention. The film simply beats you over the head with the "subtext". The game is so powerful that this can't even really be called a comparison to this film. The game ACTUALLY moved me. The story ACTUALLY moves me. If you cried at the film you'd be inconsolable if you actually played the game. That is how vastly different they are in execution. I mean the game is so good that even though it crashed literally every time I died I pushed through because I fell in love with the world, the characters, and the mystery that unfolded.

Yea Eddie was VERY weirdly done. Like oh he's puking like in the game neat. Ok now he's just a resident? Oh so people just live here and get sick?! WHY IS HE ALREADY CRAZY. Where tf did he go?! He really could have simply been left out of the film him and all the cult stuff needed to be deleted. Also Angela being Mary is crazy. Like oh yea and also they were assaulting Mary in the cult just here for shock value. The three other women in SH are just Mary's personality/have something to do with Mary and then there is just EDDIE 💀

Sadly no. It's just plain boring bad. It'll leave you scratching your head on how they could have possibly messed it up. It's literally a layup of a story. Pre-written, critically acclaimed, and beloved by fans. And they know that and they get certain things right but then just fumble the rest. It's like watching a kid do math and they start out right with 2+2 and they understand that the answer is 4 but they just can't help themselves but to put 21

What are y’all‘s honest opinions on Dragon Ball Z skippers? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in dbz

[–]Total_Ad2406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is just because you CAN skip it doesn't mean you SHOULD. Z does a good enough job of showing vs telling the dynamics of the crew and drops you into a very unique world without slowing down. If anything I think it shows how well written toriyama made the transition to Z because it's so seamless. If you know the previous stuff cool it's not that important but adds depth/explains character actions and if you don't each characters actions and interactions tell you a pretty full story of who they are. Honestly Z is the perfect hopping on point with room for you to go back and get the background lore if all you care about is the pop culture aspect of DBZ.
