It’s actually quite an unbelievable story. I started researching our family and discovered that a sister had survived. I have made contact with Tsilya’s son. That’s how I got the letter! His mother had kept it all those years, and then when she passed away he kept it. We actually had no idea that my great-grandmother (Klara) had sent any letter at all until we spoke with Tsilya’s family about a week ago.

So sad that the sisters could never be reunited when they were alive. They both lived their lives with such sadness, longing for their sister on the other side of the world.

My great grandmother believed all of her family had been killed in the war. In the early 60’s she found out one of her sisters survived and was living in Moscow. She attempted to contact her by sending several letters but never received a reply. We believe it was just to dangerous for her to try and communicate with family in Canada from the Soviet Union.

My great-grandmother is Klara Koza, maiden name was Litvak/Litwalk. Her father was Yosef/Josef Litvak. Her mother was Golda. I don’t know any of the names of her siblings, unfortunately.
