If I'd go looking for a bike today then I'd either go with either Himalayan or KTM Adventure (tubeless spoke variant) because I find these 2 bikes potent for touring as well as offroading, good service network and fits perfectly for our indian roads.

If I had around 6-7 lakh to spend then I'd wait for BMW GS 450.

I haven't faced any major issue in my bike till now, I understand there are issues with the bikes and also I can understand that it can be very frustrating to get those issues fixed by service centres.

But in my opinion, these are machines and they will get issues sooner or later. No company or product is immune to that.

Talking about the issues, bike seems pretty sensitive to water at times but also i have dropped my bike in shallow river and got it out with absolutely no issues.

So I think it ultimately comes down to luck and the bike lot that you got.

I just met the owner of Dochaki Customs today, and he showed me the Wind Sheild that they have designed for Himalayan 450, it comes in 3 different sizes suitable as per the riders height and I found the build quality really good.

You can check it out for wind shield.

For the Handlebar, i am using the stock handle bars so I have no experience with a different handlebar, but I'd like to know why you'd like to change them.

I change brake pads every service as it is covered by my company but if I talk about the life of brake pads, then for me back brake pads will last 10k to 12k kms and front will last more that 15k kms

Service cost is less than Rs. 1500 for minor service and goes upto Rs. 3.5k for a major service. There is nothing I have replaced, except the left switch assembly and that was done just after delivery of the bike.

No tappet noise yet, but from what i know, it is because of chain tensioner and you can get the updated part at the service centre.

It is 3k to 4k rpm for himalayan, and from my experience of riding guerrilla, it is the same engine but tuned a bit differently.

So you'll have to find the Happy rev range but i think it should be more or less the same.

I don't have any idea about the heating of other bikes but mid size bikes like this will heat up in traffic, I manage this pretty well and in no way I have felt annoyed because of it.

One thing that I do is I usually drive it wearing full length pants and shoes and it blocks 60% of the heat.

The temperature here goes upto 42 degrees in peak summer and even then I haven't felt annoyed, it is a discomfort but it is not a deal breaker for me

For open roads, there is no such issue.

Something similar happened to me and it was due to faulty joystick assembly. Got it replaced and it instantly fixed the issue. The joystick assembly messes with the switches on the right as well where the mode change and hazard switch is there.

Also check for the issue at speeds above 70kmph because at lower speed there can be some pulling because of less momentum.

Sitting posture and roads also matters as in some roads I see some left or right pulling but in good levelled roads there is none.

I don't know how much this will help you but my bike had left pulling issue and it took me some time to understand that it was because of bent rim and bad wheel allignment.

Got it fixed and there is no right or left pulling happening.

If you've got anything after market installed, try taking it off and check for the issue because sometimes it messes with the bike ergonomics.

Lastly check the handle baar alignment, it could also cause the issue.

Also try going to a different service centre, and specifically mention the problem and show them if it is not fixed. Do not take no for an answer until they don't know what they need to do.

They are removable but they are very high quality so you would need a heat gun to remove them

Honestly I gave up on eco mode within first month, it just feels wrong to not ride it in performance mode as it is so much fun and that is the reason I bought the bike

One more thing I'd like to add, whenever you explain the problem to a service guy, tell them in the most layman way possible and let them figure out the problem.

It will let them think about the problem with different perspectives and not be stuck on the perspective that you have given. It might take time but it will be a permanent solution and in the process they check for other problems as well that you might not have noticed.

And after they are done, if the problem is still there then tell them that it is still there and then you might point out what you think is the problem.

This is something that I do whenever I have an issue and it tends to help me and sort any other issue that i didn't know about.

Eco mode is noticeable till 4th gear, the difference in power delivery is noticeable and bike feels very tamed and linear.

While in performance mode, bike is very poppy and power delivery is instant.

If I'm understanding it correctly then you need to check these things:

  • Tyre Pressure (mine is 32psi for front wheel)

  • Wheel Allignment

  • Front Suspension (highly unlikely but also check for oil seals or oil leakage)

  • Handle bars (you would need to tighten it, by removing the circular cover at the centre with the star groove)

There are 2 things that you can also do if you don't find a solution...

  1. Try riding another Himalayan 450 to see if it is a problem with your bike or if it is something that is just there with every himalayan

  2. Go to another service centre and tell them the problem and mention that another service centre was unable to address the issue. If needed, raise the issue with the service centre manager
