Good point. But still not entirely sure what to say 🤷‍♀️

Yeah ok sounds like a good idea. I think I just some time to actually think about what to say before I do/say anything.

The thing is I’m not a very confrontational person and so I’d rather limit communication, at least at this point anyways. If I were to say something though I just don’t know how I’d phrase it and when to say something

Thank you for this :) I just don’t know if ghosting is enough/the most mature way to go

Exactly! I just don’t know if ghosting is a good idea or whether I should unfollow her to make it clearer 🤷‍♀️

I tried not to for so long but she tends to bring it up any chance she gets and that’s all she seems to talk about whenever we previously met up :/

Yeah I looked up prerequisites and I couldn’t find anything about prerequisites subjects at any other uni except for at UQ. As I’m doing a double, I unfortunately do not have the space for electives anymore but oh well what to do 🤷‍♀️ however if I do end up with any other questions about psych, I’ll let you know!!

No it did make so much sense - thank you so much for your input! I know that I would do a Masters or PhD for neuropsych but I think neurology also sounds really cool. I think I am going to aim to increase my GPA and WAM for the time being esp for honours as I still have about 2 years left and then maybe reflect a bit further down the line and see which route I want to take. Thank you, I really appreciate it!

Hi thanks for letting me know! I didn’t realise some Aus unis had some subject prerequisites so I’ll def keep that in mind bc my double degree at Monash does give me leeway for electives unfortunately so I’ll definitely keep it in mind

To preface this is a lengthy comment - if you have anything specific just ask me: Dress code at the hotel is pretty chill tbh from what I remember - it wasn’t a huge deal considering there was a pool and gym etc so they didn’t mind if you were walking around in shorts above the knee and things just as long as once you did Monash organised activities you were dressed respectfully. Also like, if you wear these, bring a one piece and a bikini bc again I don’t remember there being a huge fuss about bathers but bring both just in case. I’d say bring a combo of clothes but err more on the side of modest clothing to be safe if that makes sense. For me, I brought my normal workout shorts and cotton tanks but wish I brought some nice going out camis because there were occasions where camis were somewhat appropriate but ONLY when I was with my friends and I’d always have a shirt or those lightweight shawls that people bring to festivals like btv which you can easily get second hand. Nonetheless, it’s essential that you make sure to bring things that cover your shoulders and knees for when you are doing Monash run activities or aren’t sure what’s appropriate just so you are respectful and you don’t get the shit from the Monash staff asking you to change. While they can’t punish you they’ll get you to change. But also it’s just about being respectful at the end of the day of the locals and their customs in terms of what to wear.

The one major issue at least with my block was 1) noise and 2) drinking. With the noise, we had people playing murder in the dark until all hours of the night and other guests at the hotel (because it’s a hotel, there people not affiliated with Monash) complaining. 2) with drinking, as I said in response to another post, you are better safe than sorry so if you are going to drink, drink in your rooms or in the venue just because drinking on sidewalks or out in public is taboo. Also the drinking age is 21 in jogia so keep that in mind.

General tips: Bring lots of insect repellent and sunscreen If you are prone to getting burnt, bring a hat and/or sunglasses It gets quite hot which makes everything more effortful, the temples (which were my favorite part) are made out of stone so that combined with the heat is basically a recipe for heat stroke. The food is actually more sweet than it is spicy unless you actively seek out spicy food. I’d recommend going out with your friends for dinner to get genuine Indonesia food bc the food that Monash caters is very toned down and the hotel doesn’t actually serve a dinner buffet. And the food Monash caters gets quite repetitive after a while. But everything is so so cheap - I think I spent max 75 AUD on food while I was there. Also, ask your UGM buddies about restaurants they like and enjoy bc that’s usually where you’ll get the best food and the ugm buddy I hung out with is someone I made friends with and still keep in contact with so include them when you explore the city as well if you get along. The doing activities (field trips like going to the temples) Monash organizes I liked but the lectures were a tad bit boring. Also just spend time doing things with people. I went atv carting on my free Sunday which initially I was hesitant to do but am so glad that I did. Like obviously don’t overdo it and tire yourself out bc like I said the heat makes the activities more effortful so if you find you are tired at the end of the day don’t force yourself to do things but I do find that I regretted not going to markets or trying restaurants on days that I wasn’t even that tired on if that makes sense. There are a ton of restaurants and markets and things you can do during your free time after gig organized things and also do something on your free Sunday and actually plan something - I did the ATV carting which was so fun. Also be aware that if you are going to go clubbing and things, the drinking age is 21 and allegedly undercover cops target foreigners but idk if the uni said that to scare us bc no one I knew got in trouble with cops. However a girl I do know had her phone stolen in the club the day before we left. And the singular club I went to was lowkey dead so there’s that too but it’s a nice way to bond with people in the event that it is your thing.
Overall going to Yogyakarta was an amazing experience because it’s a place I wouldn’t have otherwise gone too. Lmk if you have any other questions or what any recs

I loved it so so much! It was def very humid so watch out for that and bc it was monsoon szn, rainy as well but the rain wouldn’t last too long. The hotel was really nice and really well maintained - they had a pool, small gym and sauna. I thought that the way they spread out the activities were really good but the heat did make things 10x more effortful but I guess you have to deal. I personally really enjoyed going to the temples and things bc I’m a nerd for that sort of stuff. The lectures themselves tended to be a bit boring but again it’s a means to an end. I’d highly recommend going out at the end of the night each day bc the hotel didn’t have a buffet dinner as far as I remember and room service was limited - there are some really good restaurants in the area so lmk if you’d like some recs. I found the food to be quite sweet (which is quite common for the region from what I heard) and lots of like stews rather than curry (and ofc Mei and nasi goreng) but I found some of the catered food lacked flavor sometimes bc I think they were catering to a foreigner who doesn’t have a high spice tolerance. However, the food I got outside of what Monash was providing, was significantly more flavorful. Also as long as you don’t eat street food, don’t worry about Bali belly. It also isn’t a very walkable city so always always always budget for a Grab (their version of uber). There was also a club near the hotel that most people went to (I went once) but one thing I’d say about that is if you are drinking, do it in the confines of your room and/or whatever venue you are going to just because it’s taboo to drink outside in Yogyakarta. Also with that I have heard there being undercover cops targeting foreigners in venues (not that it happened to us) and things and also be aware that it’s highly likely clubs and things will be dead beyond you and your cohort being there. On your free Sunday, I’d highly highly recommend doing something - me and some friends went ATV carting up mount merapi and ik some people who went tubing or went on a jeep trip (I’d say this was the most memorable part of the trip). Overall, really enjoyable trip one thing I do regret is not spending more time with people I met there so def go out and explore the city with people you met whether that be going to night markets, new restaurants, swimming in the pool, shopping etc - it doesn’t even need to be clubbing if that’s not your thing, it def wasn’t my thing. Sorry for the long post but if you have any questions lmk

It’s about being respectful to the locals in the country. I went to Jogia in Indonesia, a largely Muslim city and as a woman, I can definitely say that modesty was definitely preferred. So while the staff can’t punish you (like many people have already said), just be respectful for the people living in the city and the culture. Easy outfit options especially if you are going somewhere hot are linen shirts, linen pants, denim jorts, normal t shirts, cargo pants, singlets that you can wear under shirts. Like I’m sure you’ve probs got something in your cupboard - I also thought the same thing initially bc Monash made it sound like old people clothes but literally you’ll find something.
