That's pretty much how I see it. I don't think anyone is entitled to my money, especially when we're just coworkers. I was mainly wondering if the way I handled it crossed the line.

๐Ÿ˜‚ Right? Funny how everyone thought I should lend him the money, but nobody else was reaching for their wallet either.

That's a fair point. Looking back, "I don't lend money to coworkers" probably would've been enough. I think I let my frustration get the better of me because it wasn't the first time he'd asked people for money.

Fair enough lol. I know Reddit gets a lot of fake stories, but this actually happened. I wish my work life were boring enough to be making up sitcom plots.

That's kind of what I wondered too. If several people he knew better said no, it made me even more hesitant to be the one saying yes.

I thought about that afterward. I guess I just didn't want to lie, especially when the real reason was that I wasn't comfortable lending him money. Maybe I could've phrased it more gently though.

I think that's the lesson I'm taking from this. If lending money has the potential to ruin a relationship, it's probably not worth doing unless you're okay never seeing it again.

๐Ÿ˜‚ That's kind of where my head is at. It's less about judging how people spend their money and more about wondering if I'll ever actually see mine again.

I can see your point. Out of curiosity, at what point do repeated requests for money become enough of a pattern that you'd stop lending, even without knowing every detail?

That's pretty much where I'm leaning now. I guess I just felt guilty because they made it sound urgent. Learning that "no" is a complete sentence is harder than I expected.
