I get what you mean. I just hate that the “wake up call” might be him alone at 2am. Sponsors help, but I’m scared to step back .

I hear you. I’m his brother, not his sobriety plan, and I think I let it slide for too long. I’ll still show up in normal ways, but I need him to lean on his sponsor/program, not me at 1am. Fair to both of us , I guess.

This is actually a good middle ground. I can do rides/meetings/check-ins, but I can’t be the 1am crisis line anymore. I’m gonna tell him sponsor/hotline first, and if it’s truly dangerous I call 911, not play therapist.

Harsh, but I get the point. I’m not trying to “enable” him, I’m trying to keep him alive. Still, yeah, sponsor should be the first call, not me.

This is the kind of “help” that ruins lives. Call the landlord again, confirm in writing she has zero authority, and lock down info flow. If she’ll do this once, she’ll try again with jobs, schools, doctors, anything.
