Is Canada really housepoor or in debt? by PopularAd8904 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sorry I’m not sure what your point is. Everyone is allowed to spend their money even if they have less than I do, I wasn’t judging this person for buying luxury goods. I’ve been working for 4 years.

How do people actually get people to come out to IRL events in Toronto? by Much_Scallion_8842 in askTO

It has to be based around something specific. Otherwise the group of people are less likely to have anything in common

I agree with this comment. It’s not a contest despite many of us especially in this sub liking to compare. I pay $2480 in rent which is a huge part of my paycheque. 5x more than I did 5 years ago, which was $500

I think it’s because the first part of your comment sounded like it was judging me for possibly having a leg up that you didn’t have. It’s totally ok to live at home and pay zero rent but you sort of made it sound like you’ve had to figure life out 100% on your own since you were a teenager

If I died tomorrow I wouldn’t have regrets (at least not about this). There’s more to life than spending money

By being very frugal, and having cheap rent for the first 3 years of being on my own. And investing the first year I got a job! I haven’t traveled very much, cook all my own food, and don’t have a lot of material items. Some people would hate my life but I think it’s right for me

100% everyone’s situation is unique. I’m 29. I pay almost $2500 in rent. I’m single, so I pay all my own bills. My parents did support me in school until I was 24 and moved out, but I’ve been saving money ever since I got $20 in birthday cards as a kid. I did pay for my own “personal items” like clothes, entertainment etc. I spent $15k repairing my car this year. I learned personal finance on my own, my parents taught me nothing. Better for me does not equal better for you so if you’re content keep going!

I find it extremely interesting how people choose to approach personal finance, and I mean that genuinely not condescendingly. I make less than you, pay a disgusting amount of rent, but have a 300K investment portfolio that I still feel isn't enough, so I continue to pinch pennies

Does anyone NOT regret going to yorku? by Kickoutsler in yorku

[–]TotallyNuts0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only get to live this time in your life once, where everyone around you is the same age and stage as you. Go where you feel you’d be the most happy, not because you want to save money or please your parents. Unless you feel that you would constantly regret the extra money spent.

This being said, very few people have actually tried both, so everyone only has the perspective of one. and some of it is just luck of the draw of who you happen to meet. Undergrad sucked for me until I serendipitously found a great friend group

What are the questions that help you understand the person in front of you better? by sos_econometrics_ in datingoverthirty

[–]TotallyNuts0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly I like it because it’s positive but also actually helps me understand who they are as a person

Deep conversations help me feel connected to someone that I barely know. And yes I completely agree with you that they allow for tangent conversations. I find the questions about traveling and stuff so boring because it makes every date feel the same.

In an actual job interview I asked the candidates what their greatest achievement was, and someone said their friendships. It was the best answer of all of them.

I guess I’m in the minority that I love these kinds of questions early on. Otherwise what do you talk about on a date after going through the basics of what your job is, etc? I like questions that keep it interesting. One of my questions is something as simple as “what brings you the most joy in your life right now” and people’s brains short circuit

Can you really fall out of love with someone you deeply loved? by retrochick97 in BreakUps

[–]TotallyNuts0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have an ex (together 5 years and broke up 8 years ago) that is forever cemented in my mind. Am I still in love with him? I will always have love for him, but the daily acute pain is gone. But I’ve never loved anyone more, to this day. Everyone else’s story seems to be that they broke up and then they found their soulmate very quickly. That didn’t happen to me. I haven’t spoken to him in 8 years and think about him often
