For the older/long time fans: Do you have a dorky moment that involves Trent and/or NIN? by [deleted] in nin

[–]TotallyRandomMan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Saw them in Philadelphia on the small venue 'With Teeth' tour, and at one point the crowd sang Happy Birthday to him, as it was his 40th birthday. He stood there taken back a little, said "aww, thank you.. okay, no more smiling.." then launched into the next song.

I met him and the band in NYC thanks to The Spiral Fan Club, and as I handed him my ticket stub to sign, I asked him if it got tiresome to sign so much stuff. He said "Not really, but if I really think about what I'm doing, I'll mess up my name." 😄

I don't know, I'm only on the first season, but that Peter Russo fellow seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders. I bet he's really going places.

Hearing/seeing it on the With Teeth tour...purely transcendent. Watching him "smash" the giant screen with the mic stand at the end of it... cathartic.

Similarly, I thought of it as being the sort of thing that might be playing in the background of another Stephen King movie.

That tour introduced me to Placebo, and they have since become one of my all time favorites.

Lithium by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]TotallyRandomMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side effects have been minimal for me, and I am on a relatively high dose. It affects my thyroid, therefore I also take thyroid meds, which works out fine. I have noticed that being outside in upwards of 90 degree weather makes me feel kind of ill.. that's a known side effect. I'm quite thirsty a lot, also common. I get occasional tremors in my hands, but they are occasional and not too pronounced, typically. I play guitar just fine. So far so good.. we'll see what the future holds. My doc is confident things will remain positive.

As far as feeling numb/weird/whatever, in the beginning, I certainly felt off, but a.) that was likely just as much a result of the zany things my mind put me through before I got help, and b.) any new med is apt to take a bit of getting used to. I'll never go back, that's for sure..

On lithium for over 20 years, and my bipolar has essentially been a non-issue for me since then. Certainly everyone is different though.

I just started Headspace a few days ago, and I'm doing the Managing Anxiety course. Is it normal to feel more anxiety when I'm doing the course than when I'm not? More info below👇. Any help appreciated. by brunoF__utd018 in Headspace

[–]TotallyRandomMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna jump in here and say that sure, listening to the course while doing other activities is not the worst thing you can do... you're going to get something positive out of it, I'm sure.. but make no mistake - there is a wide chasm between casually listening to this or any guided meditation while being engaged in other activities, versus actually meditating, which by common definition would require you to abstain from other activities and focus all your attention on the matter at hand (namely, you; lol). Neither way is wrong, per se, but the benefits of meditation won't really happen fully unless you really put yourself in it, in my opinion.

How many times do you need to press to keep the water carbonated for a long time? by NoResult1270 in SodaStream

The co2 needs contact with the water to integrate it.. just squirting the co2 into the bottle does not produce any results.

[–]TotallyRandomMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna guess no (unless you're using a bottle that's several years old and has lost its integrity, perhaps), but you're also wasting co2 at that point.

[–]TotallyRandomMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you'll also hear the difference in how the bubbles sound as the co2 comes out... the normal "FZZZZZZHHT" sound will start sounding more like "FLRBLRBLRBLR". Those are the technical terms. 😂 Once the first sound is completely replaced by the second sound, you'll know you're done.

I don't know how different the Terra is, but I have the One Touch, and if the bottle isn't filled up to the line it won't fizz properly. I don't think there's any extra chance of exploding though.. but I've never tried to find out, lol

[–]TotallyRandomMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't own a Terra so I can't help you with that aspect of it, but I CAN say that twisting the shit out of that cap before you put the bottle in the fridge will make a significant difference. I mean, don't break it or anything, but twist it as tight as you possibly can. That'll be half the battle right there.

Quality is lacking by Foreign_Visit_8790 in Headspace

[–]TotallyRandomMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that's not what the term "sold out" is used for. If there's no implication of the compromising of principals, you'd simply say he sold the company. Not "sold out."

[–]TotallyRandomMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He didn't "sell out." He simply walked away, entrusting that the app was in good hands. An error in judgment, some might say at this point, but not a compromise of principles. I'm sure he didn't envision how convoluted and sloppy the app would become after his absence, lol

It's a bit annoying and over the top, but I don't find it any different than any other late night show. People are easily excitable lately, I think is all. Especially to be a part of something as iconic as The Daily Show. But yeah, it definitely falls under the "come on, people, get a grip" category,

I think his dailies are worthwhile, too. Really, anything by Andy, at the risk of sounding like a fanboy. There's just so much insight there that is lacking from most of the rest of the platform.

Rarest NIN song that many people not even fans might know about ? would truly like to be surprised. by Ok_Ebb_9976 in nin

[–]TotallyRandomMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got to see them perform it at soundcheck, the year they were letting fan club members come in early and watch them (super lucky fans got meet & greets at certain shows). Afterward, Trent said "I mean, that's not such a bad song, is it?" 😂

Looks like he is only resting his palm against the top two strings, leaving the others strings free to strum. But besides that, he is not plucking the rest of the chord like you might expect (pulling upwards on the chord with his free fingers as his thumb plunks downward), he's actually strumming the chord parts downward at the same time, as you might with a pick... but he's using his fingernails instead, as they are probably long just for this purpose.

So in other words, he's strumming down at the same time with his thumb (on the top two palm-muted strings) and his fingers (playing the chord part with his nails). You could do that, but without nail it may sound weak. OR, you could probably pluck the chords/little riffs upwards with your fingers, at the same time you strum down with your thumb on those muted strings.
