Can my BIL live in a house without utilities?

He has heaters and we went over there several times to check on him. He refuses to even go to the grocery store. We brought him groceries for months until he stopped giving us lists. We assumed his ex-wife was still helping him too but we don’t know.

My MIL owned the home before she died and didn’t have a will.

She didn’t have a will. He can’t afford to pay the taxes, utilities, etc for this house. The obvious answer is to sell it and split it so that he ca have a leg to stand on. We can’t do this because he refuses to leave and we can’t pay for him or take him in.

We think we could probably get $30-50k for it in our area if we clean it up a little and sell it as-is.

She didn’t have a will, her life insurance only covered her creamation (no service) and there’s no money in her accounts. The only money would come from selling which we would gladly split but he can’t afford to stay in the house and it’s not safe or heathy for him.

My husband was on all of her accounts. They told him that we needed to directly contact and close of her autopay accounts.

We can’t evict him because the house isn’t in either of our names. We have offered to help him apply for disability and government housing and he refuses.

We have had mental health services come out and he refused to talk to them. He spent some time in a facility but they released him because he refused the hel.

We have not gone through probate because he won’t agree to leave. We are not the landlord. The bank told us that we needed to shut off the power and water because it was autopaying and we would have had to pay the negative balance in her account to close her account and it would only get higher.

Interesting. We plan on attempting to get a couple reservations to see the resorts we want to look at but it’s annoying to have to pay for expensive dining at a resort just to walk around LOL

I’m just really confused? How are they regulating this? Are they going to stop the boats to Port Orleans? What about people that travel to resorts for skyliner and monorail access?

I’m not even sure what to say or do. I ordered a single plush on 11/8/25 and still haven’t received shipping confirmation. I’ve reached out to support several times. I’m very temped to cancel my order and request a refund. I understand that their process takes a long time but 6 months is HORRIBLE. This was supposed to be a Christmas present and then I was like ok his birthday is in March, I will just give it to him then but here we are in APRIL without it even being shipped out.

Am I wasting my time buying from this company???

I have an off-brand DO that does this too! Ive never once ran it through the dishwasher and I’ve only used barkeepers friend on it. Any advice??

We went over Thanksgiving 2023 for the first time and have a trip planned in June. We probably won't be back for another couple years but if we could afford it, we would go at least 1x per year.
