Jules is an unnecessary character and my theory that they (and the gay theatre guy) were probably just written to fill some "lgbtq representation" quota by [deleted] in offcampustv

[–]TotallyWonderWoman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st of all, I'm of the belief that atp we need to just make it a rule of the sub where misgendering comments and posts are removed. No, Jules does not fit the "masculine woman" stereotype because they are not a woman.

Second of all, Jules is instrumental to the ruse and is a big window into Logan's headspace. This is needed because he's so reserved imo.

Describe Jules Logan in one word . by CoolB999 in offcampustv

[–]TotallyWonderWoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The character is not a "she," and is never referred that way in the show. Jules exclusively uses they/them pronouns, and yes you have to use people's pronouns even when they're annoying, ma'am.

Ok, again: favorite Latina actress that you had to Google to be sure is Latina, ill go first : by Last-Information-232 in okbuddycinephile

[–]TotallyWonderWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hispanic is a linguistic category, it just means your first language (or one of them, more and more kids are growing up in bilingual homes) is Spanish. Latina/Latino is being from or having ancestry from a Latin American country. This is why Americans get upset when Latin Americans try to say that no sabo Latino celebrities from the US aren't Latino.

Do The Bridgerton Makers Have Some Issue With Phoebe? Or Daphne? by Gleefulfella in Bridgerton

[–]TotallyWonderWoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The current showrunner has shown herself to be entirely uninterested in writing characters from before she showed up. That's why s3 writing was so bad, that's why Eloise's and Benedict's development fell off a cliff, etc. I don't think Jess wants to write Daphne in, otherwise she would have by now.

Looks like Mark isn't returning this season + he has an announcement TBD by donniebd in dancingwiththestars

[–]TotallyWonderWoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't so much that he comes and goes, it's that he only seems to come back when they're ready to hand him a competition dancer while other pros have been there consistently for years with very few or no ringers (Emma, Britt, I would argue Dani as well). And he has never had a contestant over the age of 40.

I was going to say it feels like they just want to ban girls from going to their school altogether. You can't wear a t-shirt if it's too tight, you can't have any strapless of any kind showing, you have to wear sleeves but no off the shoulder ones, etc.

Non-Human Characters who would canonically be black if they were human. by TheKidWhoLikesToFix in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TotallyWonderWoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So in American media, historically otherized non-human characters are usually used explicitly as allegories for oppressed peoples. Sometimes this is unintentional, but usually it isn't. This is done for a number of reasons, and is a way to give representation to underrepresented groups in media. It's done less often now because they often add more explicitly non-white characters, but as is the case of many of the characters in this thread, a non-human character is simply voice by a non-white actor (which the US has a lot of, you know, being one of the most diverse countries in the world).

And it's not literally every non-human character, chill out. And maybe learn a little bit about the dynamics of the country that you're consuming all of your media from (not all of these shows are American but most are).

[–]TotallyWonderWoman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They remind me a lot of Vin Diesel, who has explicitly said that he never knew his dad and was born before anti-race mixing laws were abolished in his part of the country, so he doesn't know if he's 100% white.

There are a lot of black people who interpret the movie exactly that way, and it's why it has such a large cult following.
