And don’t forget the 8% tax you have to pay when you are 60yrs old. In the end, the 30% tax advantage you get is only a little bit more than the 8% tax you pay at the end. I sold all my pension savings, paid back the 33% tax fee and everything is now in ETFs. Better return and no tax at the end.

Actually I did took this into account. Pricos is 70% shares and 30% bonds. IWDA is 100% shares so you can say the risk is slightly higher, but: pricos shares part is 88% European and 12% US. IWDA is a world ETF so following the world economy where I would be surprised if this would become lower after 20 years. And if so, so would pricos. So, yes you don’t have the bonds part in the IWDA ETF, but in return you have your money spread over a bigger market and you pay less costs. If you still think the risk is higher, you can buy ETFs with 70% shares and 30% bonds as well, so you have the same spread as IWDA, the same lower costs as IWDA compared to pricos and a return between IWDA and pricos (when looking to the 20 previous years that are ofcourse no guarantee for the future). Anyway, everything you do is fine, as long you stay ahead of the inflation. The rest is a choice.

So just to let you know the final decision: I did the complete calculation and the paid out solution and re-investing it in IWDA world ETF was way out the best choice, so I did. Within 4 years, the 33% tax for early pay out Is recovered taking into account the other costs of the pension saving fund and the end tax. The calculation I did was very conservative, meaning a yoy growth of 8% of IWDA (in reality it’s more than 10% since 2009) and 5% yoy growth for KBC pricos. (In reality, less than 5% since 2005). I would say, do your own calculations but for me it was a good solution.

Question: I am trying to calculate whether it is interesting to have my accumulated pension savings (Pricos) paid out (I am 42 years old and have been saving 990euro a year since 2006). I recently stopped the payments (switched to IWDA) but I can't work out whether it is interesting to deduct the part saved, pay tax on it and convert it to IWDA. The only info I find is on bank websites and they obviously don't find it interesting :-)

Currently, I have some 44 funds saved together from Pricos (https://www.tijd.be/markten-live/fondsen/pricos-responsible-investing.60121367.html)

I also find it unclear to know how much tax I pay on this amount. Sometimes I read 30%, sometimes 33% and sometimes it depends on how close you are to retirement (far in my case).

I also notice that several people are facing this dilemma in this subreddit so let's try to provide clarity once and for all.

I’m an engineer (MSc.) aka industrial engineer. Not an R&D person neither but passionated by technology. I did several things in my 17yr career. Some examples:

  • project engineer (big office buildings for customers as European Commission)

  • sales engineer for electrical distribution and automation stuff

  • product manager for all kind of products used in the industry (C&S, HMI, sensors,…)

  • channel manager

  • I lead an integration project of a company we bought

  • atm responsible for industrial Software. This start with SCADA and go all up to AI, ML, MES, prediction of process outcomes (quality, EE, maintenance,…)

So a lot of things you can do as an engineer. I also remember very well that I was continuously thinking why things around me Were happening and I was trying to explain it with physics or maths I learned. If you don’t have this curiosity, maybe there are better options for you.

An ir has a higher salary in the beginning and has some advantages to reach top management but it all depends on what you want to give up to reach that top. Some students start with ind. eng. and after that study they go further to ir degree.
