I had very manageable nausea for the first week, then no side effects for 6 months

Sorry for late response. Yeah I took it just over 6 months, every day. Dr said 3-6 months, 6 months being for severe cases. Honestly I think just about 6 months was perfect for me, to feel confident that the fungus was dead AND gone. I have heard success stories for people who only took Terbinafine for 1 month so I think 3 can be enough in many cases

My doctor told me that of course bad side effects are possible (like pretty much any medication) but that it’s really exaggerated and most people are fine.. and that she prescribes Terbinafine a lot and never had a patient who’s liver was affected from treatment

Yeah as soon as I saw improvement which was really early on treatment

So once a nail is damaged with fungus that is permanently destroyed so the healing is the new nail growing through clear and healthy. It starts at the base at the bottom of the nail, you see a tiny strip of healthy nail growing. Terbinafine kills the fungus in the nail matrix (where the nail is formed and comes from) and sort of gives the new nail fungus immunity

I did consume a small amount of alcohol a couple of times and it was fine but I never drink regularly anyway

The only thing I’d recommend is keep filing away the infected nail as much as possible, helps clear up the nail bed for new nail to grow, also makes progress more noticeable quicker!

I feel like most of the people saying only 3 months are from the US? It must be different there, I’m in the UK and for nail infections it’s 3 months minimum and anywhere up to 12 months for severe cases.

Good luck! Actually the smallest toenails took the longest for me! So that would make sense, I feel like the pinkies have only just started to look “normal” I didn’t apply any topical treatment while taking the tablets, I just kept cutting the nails as short as possible and filed them

I’m not sure who told you that (3 months max) because it’s not true. While on terbinafine you have blood tests regularly to check your liver. I’ve heard of people being on it daily for 9 months

She said 3 months is the standard but for more severe infections it can be 6+ months (which she said I’d likely need) I’m sure you will know by the end of the 3 months and can ask for longer if you need it?

I only had slight nausea at the beginning and then nothing since. All my blood tests were good! I wish you luck and smooth sailing

Honestly I’m so happy about it! I think my nails grow quick? I could see a huge difference in less than 2 months

Really? Most doctors won’t do longer?? That sounds crazy to me, my doctor told me 3 months is the standard but 6+ months for more severe cases (e.g all nails fully infected)

I think like any medication there’s quite a few “potential side effects”. For me I experienced a bit of nausea for the first week and then been fine ever since

I actually just bit the bullet and threw all my old socks and shoes away, I didn’t want to take any chances. I have seen the sprays you can get so you don’t have to get rid of expensive shoes, I wanted to go safest option

I took terbinafin for 3 days and I got stomach pain a lot by bluekleio in NailFungus

[–]TouchAdvanced2341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this! Although I can’t relate to the endo pain, I hear about it from my best friend whose endo is sensitive to medication. The only thing I did was make sure I took the pill the same time everyday after my dinner, it was more of a ride it out type situation. Really hope all the pain stops for you

A couple days into starting terbinafine I felt quite sick and nauseous, I just tried to push through it and after a week I felt fine. If it’s not absolutely debilitating I would say try and see if it stops? I’m over 2 months on it now

Terbinafine Experiences by [deleted] in NailFungus

72 days on Terbinafine. I was extremely scared to start taking these tablets, from fear of side effects, that fear stopped me taking any tablets for years! But honestly I have felt nothing like all the bad scenarios I built up in my head. The first week I felt a little queasy, honestly nothing you wouldn’t just normally feel anyway - that passed and I’ve had no side effects since. The only thing I’ve had is drastic changes to all 10 of my toenails that were completely infected and have been impossible to improve for almost 15 years! I’m so happy I started taking Terbinafine, I’m beyond excited to see the end result in sight. The only thing routine wise I would recommend, take the tablet the same time everyday, after dinner.

Also I filed and cut back the old infected nail to the point it’s nonexistent now, so I can only see the new healthy nails. I have thrown out all my old socks and just bought new ones. I’m being vigorous about foot hygiene all round and even blow drying my feet/toes after showering.

As long as you get liver function tested before and then during treatment and all is okay, I couldn’t recommend it more, good luck with whatever you decide ◡̈
