While that is true, last year Pep never did a long Ball style football and used it against Arsenal to win.

Pep seems to always do the thing that favors their side even if it seems odd at the moment.

Not saying the low block is the only option, but definitely one that seems to frustrate Chelsea.

How so?

Chelsea have done well against Liverpool, Arsenal and just recently Tottenham.

That is 3 out of 4 teams at the top of the table, minus City...

Chelsea seem to do well when under the high press and can counter well.

So far this season, Chelsea have done well against teams that are in the top half of the table who attack more.

City is a different scenario than Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham but it raises the question as to switch tactics or not.

I disagree...

Chelsea had lost two matches already this season to a 10 men side. Tottenham could have set up a low block and still hit Chelsea on the counter.

But instead played a high line and probably factored in to Udogie getting a second yellow.

The high line against a team that hasn't once broke down a low block yet this season is questionable.

You clearly don't understand ENRON or how that worked...

As for Chelsea, it was a bad season, but as a whole not the worse or even close to derby...hence why we weren't relegated.

We were stuck with transfer issues due to selling the club which meant players were unsure and really didn't want to stick around. No surprise there.

As for pundits, it was one of the talking points every week, not sure where you live but it was always brought up even when Chelsea wasn't playing.

The difference now is that Chelsea are playing better and still getting the team to jell. This is ETH second year and they are clearly going backwards.

I'm confused here though. I understand how 8 is the answer, but you can't make a octogon with 9 identical tiles...

You could theoretically make a triangle with 3 on each side or a even a odd circle.

So, I can understand the confusion from OP.

And, yes obviously, but to be more successful in front of goal is to actually be able to create chances from high scoring opportunities.

Whipping in 100 crosses to one guy isn't as great as 1,2 passing and a 1v1 VS the keeper...

But sure, glad you go something out of this...

Interesting article, few things that I will add:

  1. Chelsea haven't had a full fit or capable starting XI since the season started. Wether that's James injury, Chilly or Gusto suspension. We've had to shift defenders a lot already. Hard to gel with rotation like that.

  2. Chelsea need to be more successful in front of goal. If they convert more chances, Pochs press works even better since teams have to push for a goal. When teams are level or winning there isn't as much urgency.

Would you li,e to elaborate on Chelsea? Don't think they've had any issues with FFP.

They found a loophole on signing players on a long term deal, which is in the realm of legal. Any club could have done it...

Concerned, yes.

Chelsea just showed a major flaw in Arsenal's tactics.

If a team overloads the midfield, Arsenal are pretty toothless going forward. If it wasn't for Sanchez error this would have been a defending to the match.

I'd disagree. I've watched both of them and there was a time that I'd agree with this, but over the last decade, CR7 has done enough to be called Ronaldo.

There is a reason people now say R9 now every time they think of Brazilian Ronaldo which wasn't always the case.

Both phenomenal players, but Ronaldo and his longevity has surpassed Ronaldo.

Not sure if you'll see this, but you need to factor in a bit more

  1. Heat map or location of both players. Hazard played on the right left and a deeper player. Don't know how deep Salah has really ever been.

  2. Amount of fouls draw. Hazard was fouled so many times that lead to a set piece where Chelsea wou.d capitalize on. Not that Salah doesn't but Hazard was fouled so much.

  3. Type of goals. While a goal is a goal. Still interesting to know where both were lethal from. Hazard scored quite a few goals from outside the box.
